(Bill W) July 21, 2011 – The Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series will compete in their much anticipated Illinois Sprint Week festivities starting Wednesday, July 27, and continuing through Sunday, July 31. To make matters even more entertaining, two drivers enter the week tied atop the point standings.
Jerrod Hull and Robbie Standridge have used consistency to sit atop the current point standings, though neither has won a feature as of yet with the series. Jimmy Hurley is third in the standings, followed by Jim Moughan Jr., and Korey Weyant, who won the series’ last event at the Lincoln Speedway on July 8. Jeremy Standridge and AJ Bruns are tied for sixth, while Ben Wagoner, Chris Urish and Joey Moughan round out the top ten. There will be much movement over the next week, as the drivers race five nights in a row at five different tracks!
On Wednesday, July 27, the series hits the Spoon River Speedway south of Canton, Illinois! The speeds at Spoon River Speedway are legendary, as are the drivers that have won at the high-banked 3/8-mile facility. Names like Standridge, Moughan, McCarl, Weyant, Doty, Beechler, Wright and many more have graced Victory Lane at the track sometimes called “Mini-Eldora”, due to its high banks and high speeds! The event will serve as a preview to the “Tom Knowles Memorial” at the facility Saturday, September 17.
On Thursday, July 28, the series will head down to the Tri-City Speedway near Granite City, Illinois. The series’ scheduled event there on June 17 was lost to showers, and the fans, track officials and drivers are excited about the 3/8-mile racy bullring being part of Sprint Week.On Friday, July 29, Jacksonville Speedway on the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Jacksonville, Illinois will play host. Terry McCarl took the first series’ feature ever at the ¼-mile banked oval in May!
On Saturday, July 30, another bullring comes into play. Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois will host the Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series for the first time ever!
Finally, on Sunday, July 31, the Shepp’s Speedway near Alexander, Illinois promises more close and tight action. This will also be the inaugural appearance for the series at Shepp’s!
