The Mid-America Lightning Sprint Summer Nationals which was held last Saturday night June 29th at Nevada Speedway was a hung success. The fans were able to come down on the front stretch at intermission to meet there favorite drivers, take pictures and get autographs. Some received free t-shirts; some were able to sign the nose wing of Merrill Lambs car some even set in cars for pictures and to see what it feels like to race one of these fast affordable open wheel cars. The feature event winner was Barry Lamb who was piloting the Rod End Supply #49. After his victory he drew two names from the hat. These two lucky children one boy and one girl received Christmas early and took home a brand new Bicycle bought by the Mid-America Lightning sprint drivers! Also the Mid-America Lightning Sprint drivers were treated to a free pre-race dinner provide by Liquid and Powder Coat Finishes of Kansas City.
The racing action was fast and exciting. Barry jumped to an early lead and the only real threat was late in the race from Phil Heavelow who started in last place due to not making the call for the green flag. All drivers put in a solid effort but on lap 15 of 20 the track began to take rubber which changed most cars handling.
