Lucas Oil Late Model SeriesSeaford, Delaware (07/05/12) – It’s with regret that Austin Hubbard has announced that he will be withdrawing from competing on the Lucas Oil late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) tour starting with this weekend’s event in Mississippi.

Just a week ago the team thought they were ready for the second half of the season. A new generator had just been installed in the hauler as well as new tires and a new air conditioner. In addition the team had just picked up three fresh motors, and a new crewman. However, things change quickly in this business, and Austin found that he was no exception. The new generator broke in just 24 hours, the team’s favorite motor was damaged during the Firecracker (Lernerville Speedway) last weekend after losing all the water, and last but not least at Portsmouth Raceway Park he received damage to the nose of his car in the mud, which caused the mounts to bend down. All of these problems and more, have led to the team having to adjust their plans for the rest of the year.

Austin comments, “I normally weigh 175 lbs, but after the past few weeks I’m down to 148 lbs. Nick (crewman) slept for 24 hours straight after we got home, and our new crew guy, Chris probably thinks that it’s always 100 degrees in the East. Our team is just beat up right now, and we need to step back and get everything together.”

Hubbard started the year in the Tim Logan Racing entry during Speedweeks, but shortly after Speedweeks Logan made it known that he didn’t want to compete on a full-time basis. As a result Hubbard Motorsports put together their own team in just thirty days and debuted at Brownstown Speedway (Indiana) in March. Since then it’s been nonstop issues for the team including engine issues, hauler issues, and more. Austin was determined to not give up on the tour, but things have gotten to the point, where it was time to regroup.

“I really have enjoyed running the Lucas Oil tour and will return to action with them on a part-time basis at some point. However, I’m done with point’s chasing this year. It’s been a tough year, but it’s funny if I could have held off Francis at East Bay (Florida) and Lanigan at Delaware International I would have wins on both national tours and everybody would say I was having a great season, but being the first loser is quickly forgotten. Should’ve, could’ve I guess you could say,” laughs Hubbard. “Sometimes you need to retreat from a battle and rebuild your army to win the war. The main goal at this point is to be prepared for the 2013 season. If a opportunity does not become available, I need to know that my family program is competitive.”

For the remainder of the year the team will hit and miss events with both the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and World of Outlaws (WoO) as well as some regional events and crown jewels.

Hubbard concludes by noting, “I need to thank Trinity Transport, Virginia Motor Speedway, Ernie Davis, Salisbury Door and Hardware, Port City Racing, Peterson Fluid Systems, Hoosier Tires, and Sunoco Race Fuels for all of their help this year in trying to put together a national program.
Hubbard will next be in action on Tuesday, July 10th at Delaware International Speedway (Delmar, Delaware) in the Camp Barnes Benefit event. For more information on the event please visit www.DelawareRacing.com .
