East Moline, IL. – June 30, 2013 – It was Richmond Gear Mid-Season Championship, presented by U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco, Sunday night at the Quad City Speedway and nail biting finishes were the name of the game. All features were lined up by point standings going into Sunday night’s racing action and that set the stage for some crowd pleasing side by side racing at the ¼ mile high banks.

The tone for the night was set in the first feature of the evening with the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds. The rivalry between Greg Durbin and Doug Crampton added another chapter with them battling it out for the first 16 laps. On lap 17 Crampton moved up one line on the track and ran side by side with Durbin for the final three laps. Coming to the checkered flag they were door to door with Crampton edging out Durbin by a nose. Eric Barnes finished a solid third right on Crampton and Durbin. Brian Bushong finished fourth followed by Jason Bahrs, who started 14th. Heat winners were Todd Dykema and Ray Cox Jr.

For the third week in a row Blue Grass’ Brandon Dahl found his way into victory lane in the 4-Cylinders. B. Dahl used the bottom side of the track to hold Aaron Hitt and Zach Bollinger, who both challenged for the lead several times. Hitt would take second followed by Bollinger, Nolan Kaufman, who started 20th, and Zach Dahl. Heat winners were Hitt and J.R. Brown.

UMP Modified point leader, Milo Veloz Jr., and Eureka, IL’s, Brock Bauman had a race for the ages Sunday night. For the first 19 laps B. Bauman used the whole track trying to find a way around M. Veloz but it wasn’t until the white flag lap that B. Bauman made his move coming out of turn 2 for the lead. B. Bauman held off M. Veloz the final ½ lap to collect his first career Quad City Speedway win. Cody Bauman finished third followed by Mike Chasteen Jr., who started 14th, and R.J. Gonzales. Matt Werner turned in the quickest lap in the Mr. Fix It Time Trials with a 14.49. Heat winners were M. Veloz and Jason Pershy.

It may be his first season running full time at the Quad City Speedway for Maquoketa’s Jarett Franzen but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the way he has been running as of late. Franzen grabbed his third consecutive win in the Weber Auto Group Street Stocks holding off a very strong Chris Lawrence for 15 laps. Korey Peterson, who started 11th, took third followed by Rob Nylin, who started 12th, and Perry Gellerstedt. Heat winners were Lawrence and Franzen.

In the highly anticipated Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models Mike Zemo Jr. jumped out to an impressive with Nate Beuseling and Rob Toland running side by side for second. On lap 15 though it became a whole different race when Zemo broke an axel ending his night. Toland would hold off late charges by Beuseling and Mike Cothron to clam another “W”. Cothron would get by Beuseling for second with Todd Malmstrom taking fourth and LeRoy Brenner fifth. Heat winners were Toland and Brenner.

Pole setter Shon Sanders held off a late charge from Mike Pershing in the McDonald’s Mod Lites to snag another victory. Wapello, IA’s, Dan Keltner came all the way from 13th to finish third. Brad Lucy and Dan Guss rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Lucy and Sanders.

Racing at the Quad City Speedway continues next Sunday, July 7th, in the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models, UMP Modifieds, U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds, Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, and 4-Cylinders. Hot laps are at 5:15pm with the UMP Modified Mr. Fix It Time Trials to follow. Normal admission prices apply.
