FREMONT, Ohio – In 2021, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania’s Danny Dietrich led all by the last lap of the Ohio Speedweek event at Fremont Speedway as Cole Duncan slipped by for the win. Dietrich turned the tables Saturday, June 9 at “The Track That Action Built,” passing race long leader Cap Henry on the last corner of the last lap to claim the $10,000 Rick Ferkel Classic on night two of the 41st Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.

Kistler Engines/Kistler Racing Products/Madison Motors Night didn’t start well for “Double-D” as he clipped an infield tractor tire in his heat and went to the tail. He stormed back to finish second and lock into the dash where a sixth place finish put him in the third row of the 40-lap feature. Just like the previous night at Attica Raceway Park when Zeb Wise passed Tyler Courtney on the last lap, Dietrich’s winning move came on the last corner of the last lap as the two-time Williams Grove (PA) Speedway track champion, bested Henry by just .054 seconds for his first ever Fremont win and his 20th career All Star win.

“My car owner was probably mad at me for coming out here instead of racing for $7,000 at Lincoln Speedway tonight, but $10,000 sounds a little bit better,” Danny Dietrich, ace of Gary Kauffman’s Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, #1 Cochran Expressway, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Self Made Racing, No. 48 sprint car, said.

“I remember losing one this way to Cole Duncan, so heading into turn three on that last lap, all I could replay in my head was that move by Cole, so I just tried to do what he did. Just hats off to everyone back home who allows us to come out here and do this,” Dietrich added. “We have so many people to thank, and I know they are at home watching, but we certainly couldn’t do any of this without our supporters, and of course, the fans.”

As noted, Henry led the first 39 and a half circuits before finishing second in the Fremont Speedway main event, followed by Tyler Courtney, Zeb Wise, and Buddy Kofoid.

“We just got beat fair and square,” Cap Henry mentioned. “I hate leading a race early. We were definitely hanging in those last five laps or so…just trying to hang on. I made too many mistakes the last five laps. But, we’re up here standing in second after a bad start last night at Attica. We’ll take this and move forward.”

In the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, John Ivy led the first seven laps before Kody Brewer slipped under him for the lead. Bryan Sebetto drove into the lead a lap later with Brewer constantly running to the leader’s inside. In fact Brewer regained the lead with 10 to go right before a caution flew.

Brewer and Sebetto traded the lead back and forth until Sebetto moved to the bottom of the track – in Brewer’s lane – with five laps to go and drove to his second straight Fremont win. It was the third win in a row for the former Fremont 410 sprint track champion as he won last week at Attica Raceway Park as well. It is Sebetto’s 25th career win at Fremont putting him in a tie for 22nd on the track’s all-time win list.

“That was simply experience. I’ve got a lot of laps around here and Kody doesn’t. He’s going to win some races. I like running the top but when I saw him driving under me I decided to move down. It’s great to get a win with both my sons here and so many of the people who have helped me out over the years,” said Sebetto beside his Sandusky Bay Remodeling, JLH General Contractor, Sandusky Bay RV Rentals, KH Suspension, NAPA of Fremont, Clay Keim, Depot Pizza, CA Kustoms backed machine.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 17 with the D2 midgets, Steel Block Late Model Series and the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks in action.
