King of America Modified NationalsHUMBOLDT, Kan. (Oct. 22) – If Saturday’s King of America Modified Nationals finale is anything like the qualifying features the last three nights, Humboldt Speedway fans are in for a legendary battle that will be talked about for years to come.

On Friday, Schwab’s Tinker Shop Qualifying Night produced the third straight qualifying feature of the week that came down to the wire with a pass for the lead in the closing laps.

Ryan Gustin passed Terry Phillips with three laps to go on win Wednesday’s race, and Johnny Scott got by Jon Tesch for the lead just four laps from the finish to win on Thursday. Kelly Shryock did one better, snagging the lead from Brian Bolin with the white flag blowing in the breeze and then checking out during a green-white-checkered finish to take the win in Friday’s feature race.

By virtue of beating Brian Bolin by a bumper to finish third Friday night, Mark “Fluffy” Dotson earned enough extra points to put him on the pole for Saturday’s $15,000-to-win King of America Modified Nationals championship race. Shryock’s efforts earned him the outside front row for the 75-lap finale.

Tesch will start on the inside of the second row with Steven Whiteaker Jr. to his right. The rest of the field will roll onto the 3/8-mile clay oval as follows:
