Lebanon-I-44-Speedway(LEBANON, Missouri) Lebanon I-44 Speedway’s American Speed Association® (ASA) Midwest Tour race date has been re-scheduled for the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, September 1, 2012, returning the super late model series to the track’s 3/8-mile, high-banked asphalt oval for the first time in over ten years.

“Our previously announced 2012 race date of Saturday, September 29 proved to be very difficult for many of the ASA Midwest Tour race teams, since they would need to be in LaCrosse, Wisconsin just three days after our show” said I-44 Speedway promoter Craig Armstrong. “Back in the heyday of our track’s asphalt racing era, the traditional Midwest Tour race date was the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. We believe we are just following in (track founder) Bill Willard’s footsteps, and returning this talent-rich stock car racing series to its original date.”

“We fully support Lebanon I-44 Speedway’s decision to request an earlier race date for our series,” said ASA Midwest Tour Vice President, Steve Einhaus. “Since there are no ASA Midwest Tour race dates one week before or after Labor Day, we believe that Saturday, September 1st will be perfect for our race teams in terms of travel, and even vacation opportunities in the Ozarks prior to or after I-44 Speedway’s event.”

In addition, Armstrong announced that the United States Super Truck series has agreed to an I-44 Speedway date on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 26, for a major event featuring full-size, V-8 powered pickup trucks similar to those that race in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series.

“Our ASA-sanctioned Sportsman class, which races during our Saturday night ‘Kickin’ Asphalt’ shows, has new rules for 2012 that allow USST-type super trucks to compete,” Armstrong noted. “We’re very excited about the possibility of several Sportsman teams racing those trucks every Saturday night, and then competing against the USST teams when they come to town on May 26th. That’s going to be such an exciting show for our race fans, and will give them some ‘local heroes’ to cheer for!”
