Macon Speedway          MACON, Ill. – B.G. Nevitt knew his way around a race track. That’s just one reason by Macon Speedway will rename the Faster Pastor Night as the B.G. Nevitt Memorial on Saturday, June 7, when IHOP Night features the Nevitt Memorial, a celebration of Nevitt’s life and POWRi midgets.

The defending champion of the Faster Pastor race, Nevitt served as the senior pastor at Glad Tidings Church in Decatur before his death last summer. His reach didn’t stop at his church. Nevitt also preached to many people on TV, radio and online. Nevitt volunteered as the Decatur Police Department chaplain and an auxiliary officer.

Nevitt’s touch also could be found in the community. He was known for the blessing of the bikes, an annual event with his motorcycle friends. He helped the community by working with the county coroner during difficult times for grieving individuals. Nevitt gave himself to the Decatur community, and he was one of the city’s favorite citizens.

The Faster Pastor race is a six-lap event where local ministers race four-cylinder hornet stock cars on the fifth-mile oval. It’s a Macon Speedway tradition. The fans love it. The congregations love cheering for the pastors, and the ministers find it hard to keep a smile off their faces. Gates open at 5 p.m., and racing starts at 7.

IHOP will also distribute coupons, and the night includes the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series plus the Outlaw Micros and Beach House Mini-Sprints. It’s the kind of action packed racing that Nevitt enjoyed. The program will also include participation from gtChurch, where Nevitt’s memory is alive and well.
