sfcr-2015(Bill W) June 2, 2015 – Brad Loyet and the Loyet Motorsports/Vacuworx Global #o5 team came into Thursday’s FVP National Sprint League event at Saint Francois County Raceway near Farmington, Missouri with high expectations.  Drawing the pole for the feature only raised them.  Unfortunately, a series of wheelies down the backstretch on the first lap set the Sunset Hills, Missouri driver back a bit, but he would still checker a strong third place finish.

With a good balance of NSL and local cars, Brad timed in second quick in the 41-car field.  “I kind of knew what I had to do,” he says.  “When I heard (Danny) Lasoski’s time (a new track record at 10.794), I thought that was really good.  He was the first car out.  I knew the place was tricky exiting the corner and carrying speed.  I kind of creeped up the track every lap and made sure my last one was the best one.  I think we were under the old track record.  Overall, our qualifying has been really good this year.”

With a heat invert of six, and only five transferring to the main event, he had his work cut out for him.  “All the heat races were tough,” says Brad.  “The track was still pretty heavy and looking at the lineup I knew it would be tough.  I knew I had to beat one car, but I was having a hard time figuring out which car that would be.  Luckily enough, we got the jump on (Dusty) Zomer who was beside us and beat him to the bottom.  That was pretty much the heat race.”

Brad would draw the pole for the feature, but the tough first lap cost him.  “Drawing the pole was a good way to get the feature started,” he says.  “The track was really heavy.  I dynoed quite a few shocks in the trailer before the A main.  I was trying to find something where I could hold the front end down.  We had that issue before at Farmington.  I picked the one I felt was the best, but we still got up in the air.  I don’t know if I got a little excited coming off the corner or what.”

He could have withstood one wheelie, but a series of them slowed down the #o5.  “I knew once you got out there in good track position, you would be sitting pretty well,” says Brad.  “I pulled the first wheelie and I thought it would come down fine.  When it hit the ground, my foot came down and it popped right back up.  I did that three or four times.  I honestly felt it cost us the race.  I felt bad for the guys, because we know how to get around the place.”

Brad would have to battle just to get back to third.  “We fell back to fourth right away,” he says.  “Jerrod Hull was running well, Joe B. Miller was running well and you had Lasoski.  We were riding around there, and that’s what it was.  We were able to get back to third.  It was one of those deals where you can’t win it on the first lap, but you can sure lose it.  That’s kind of what I did there.”
