It was a brotherly love kind of night at the Quad City Speedway on Sunday night for some as others just tried to find a groove to play on.

Opening Night in East Moline was supposed to be last weekend, but was pushed back due to track conditions and wet weather. Regardless, the fans came out to support family and friends and to enjoy the show.

Colona brothers Milo and Justin Veloz certainly supported each other as each turned in dominant performances in the UMP Modified series.

Milo Veloz Jr. piloted Car V to the win in the second heat race, just after Justin Veloz won the first heat event.

“We won a lot of races here last year,” Veloz Jr. said. “That track was a little rough being the first night out. I put my brother’s car together like mine this week. Just trying to help him out.”

Milo may have helped Justin and his No. 43 ride to the win in the heat race, but couldn’t help him when his gear box broke early on in the feature.

“We were doing pretty good,” Veloz said. “We set the cars up today pretty much the same. Went into the first corner and the gear box locked up on me. I tried to fight it the whole time. It was tough, but I fought through it.”

It made it easier on Justin to see his brother dominate on his way to his first 2013 feature win after taking 10 of them last year.

“I knew it was going to be one of those one groove deals,” Veloz Jr. said. “Try to stay smooth and stay out of the ruts. It was rough, so you had to keep it out from underneath of you. I was hoping to see me and my brother on the front row, but we’re happy with where we’re at for next week.”

IMCA Modifieds: The first IMCA Modified feature finished was a reversal from last season’s final points standings with Doug Crampton out-running Greg Durbin. Durbin was giving Crampton a mirror-full for the first half of the race. After a restart with eight to go, Crampton pulled away for the victory.

Late Model: In the Eriksen Chevrolet Late Models, Rob Toland wheeled the No. 390 machine to victory lane. Local boys Ray Guss Jr. and Nate Beuseling had to battle back from bad draws in the 25-lap feature.

“It was about all we could do,” Guss Jr. said of his third-place finish. “It was pretty rough out there. You had to find spots to get around that. I knew when I drew a 10 (starting position), it wasn’t going to be a perfect night. We just was going to make the best of it that we could.”

Beuseling brought his No. 46 car home in seventh place.

In other action, Greg Rossell won the evening finale, the McDonald’s Mod Lite feature. Chase Flatt led a majority of the race before Rossell made the late pass with four to go.

In the Weber Auto Group Street Stock, the two heat winners duked it out for the trophy. Jarrett Franzen held off Rob Nylin for the win. Franzen led all but one lap in the feature.

In the 4-Cylinders, Aaron Hitt took home the win after Jake Ellithorpe scraped the wall with two laps to go. Ellithorpe was running down Hitt from second place when he made contact with the wall.
