EAST MOLINE, IL – July 21, 2013 – Going into Sunday night’s racing event at the Quad City Speedway East Moline’s Greg Durbin and Rock Island’s Doug Crampton were only separated by six points a top the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modified point standings and they combined for seven feature wins in 2013. Last season Durbin edged out Crampton by four points to win the track championship in IMCA Modifieds. Sunday night they added another barnburner feature finish to their feud.

In the 20 lap U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modified feature Durbin used the first six laps to navigate through traffic to get his car from eighth to first with Crampton not far behind. A caution on lap 13 would set the stage for an epic finish. With five laps to go Crampton was running the top side with Durbin running the low side. They exchanged the lead several times rubbing some sheet metal a few times. When the checkered flag waved it was Durbin coming home first with Crampton second followed by Brian Bushong, Eric Barnes, and Matt Werner, who came from last place after an early race altercation. Heat winners were Leland Bushong and B. Bushong.

The IMRA Midget Lites made another appearance Sunday night with a stout 15 car field putting on an excellent 15 lap feature. Mason City, IL’s, Andy Baugh won his second feature in a row at QCS. Baugh sliced and diced his way through lapped traffic and held off a strong Johnny Murdock in the 2P. Aaron Schuck took third with Shane Morgan and Jeremy Hull rounding out the top five. Heat winners were Tom Casson and Hull.

Shon Sanders continued his winning ways in the McDonald’s Mod Lites. Galesburg’s Brad Lucy looked to have the car to beat for the first 10 laps of the caution free 15 lap feature, but on lap 10 Sanders made his move for the lead and never looked back. Lucy would take second followed by Mike Dominguez, Brian Schnell, and Jason Masengarb. The heat winner was Mike Dominguez.

A little luck and some experienced driving put Kewanee’s Shaune Lewis in victory lane in the UMP Modifieds. Milo Veloz Jr. and Donovan Lodge seemed to be the cars to beat early on in the 20 lap feature but mechanical failures ended both drivers’ nights. Lewis then took control of the lead and held off a late charge from Pontiac, IL’s, T.D. Burger, who came all the way from the last starting spot. Lewis collected his second career QCS win with R.J. Gonzales, who started 10th, taking second followed by Brock Bauman, Justin Veloz, and Chad Tucker. Heat winners were Lodge and M. Veloz Jr. Fast time in the Mr. Fix It Time Trials went to Lodge with a 14.32.

Colona’s Chris Lawrence took full advantage of an outside front row starting position to take the win in the Weber Auto Group Street Stocks. It wasn’t with out its challenges though. Lawrence held off strong runs by Chad Coyne and Perry Gellerstedt en route to victory lane. Gellerstedt would take second followed by Jarett Franzen, who started last, Coyne, and Rob Nylin. Heat winners were Gellerstedt and Lawrence.

Todd Malmstrom made it two in a row in the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models. It only took Malmstrom two laps to assume the lead from his ninth starting position. Malmstrom hugged the tires on the bottom holding off early challenges from Eric Gustaf and Mike Zemo Jr. Zemo would take second followed by Rob Toland, Nate Beuseling, and Gary Webb. Heat winners were Zemo and Toland.

Zach Dahl returned to victory lane for the second time in 2013 Sunday night in the 4-Cylinders. Z. Dahl only needed the first two laps to pilot his car from fifth to first. Z. Dahl was untouchable in the 12 lap feature. Eric Stogdell finished second followed by Aaron Hitt, Ken Stogdell, and Mike Wisdom. Heat winners were Hitt and Z. Dahl.

Racing continues next Sunday with Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models, UMP Modifieds, U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds, Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, and 4-Cylinders all in action. Hot laps at 5:15pm with racing to follow. Regular admission prices apply.
