GRAYSON, KY (October 30) – Josh McGuire and his #41 JMR team closed out the 2013 racing season on Saturday night, October 26 at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Kentucky. The 2nd Annual ‘Halloween 50’ was on tap at the thirty year old racing facility and a $5,000 winner’s check was on the line. Josh started his evening by clicking off a New Track Record during the qualifying session, but that is when his night unfortunately took a turn for the worse. The Grayson, Kentucky ace was involved in a serious incident in his heat race, which resulted in his #41 JMR Chassis enduring a series of violent flips.

Following the accident, Josh was transported by ambulance to Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in nearby Paintsville, Kentucky. He was diagnosed there with a fractured C-1 vertebrae and airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia for further evaluation. The neurosurgeon at St. Mary’s opted to take a neck brace approach instead of surgery and Josh will be wearing a neck brace around the clock for the next three months.

“The neurosurgeon and all of the doctors that cared for Josh expressed how lucky he was that he didn’t get injured more seriously,” said wife Tracy McGuire. “They are optimistic that no surgery will be needed as long as Josh wears the neck brace properly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All glory to God and thanks to all of the medical staff that were so wonderful and compassionate. Josh and I have been humbled by so many of the thoughts and prayers from the racing community and we are forever grateful!”

Josh entered forty-one (41) Dirt Late Model events during the course of his 2013 campaign and reached victory lane on four (4) different occasions. The “Mayor of Bad Fast” claimed wins at three different facilities in 2013: 201 Speedway in Sitka, Kentucky, Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio, and Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg, Ohio. With the help of an astonishing twelve (12) runner-up finishes, Josh accumulated twenty-three (23) Top Five efforts and twenty-nine (29) Top Ten performances.
