Lucas Oil SpeedwayBy Lyndal Scranton – Wheatland, MO (December 2, 2015) – Danny Lorton, who’s done everything from drive a race-car to oversee competition during a three-decade career in the racing business, is joining Lucas Oil Speedway as Assistant General Manager.

Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson announced Lorton’s hiring on Wednesday. Lorton also will assume the role of Competition Director on race nights and supervise all race officials.

Lorton has been Race/Competition Director at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly the last three years. Before that he was involved in driving a race-car in various divisions on area speedways.

Lorton also has been a car owner, late model series director and technical inspector along with being a founding member and serving on the ULMA Board of Directors.

“We are pleased to welcome Danny to our team here at Lucas Oil Speedway,” Robinson said. “He has a tremendous amount of experience in the racing business and will be a valuable asset to our staff.”

Lorton, a native of Moberly and United States Navy veteran, will begin his duties in the newly created position at Lucas Oil Speedway on or about Jan. 7.

“Back when I first raced there in 2007, we rolled in there and I was like, ‘Man, wouldn’t it be nice to work in a place like this.’ When this opportunity came up it was like a dream-come-true job,” Lorton said.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working with Dan and the staff at Lucas Oil Speedway,” Lorton added. “I owe a lot of thanks to Dave Claypoole and his family for believing in me and what we were able to achieve in the last three years with Randolph County Raceway and I wish them well in the future.

“Now 2016 will be a new year and a new beginning to a career in a sport I love.”

Lorton said he began racing low-level Bomber division cars before advancing through the modified ranks and finally getting into late models in 2006.

“That was about the time ULMA came around and I was one of the co-founders of that,” Lorton said. “Since I took over as competition director at Randolph County Raceway about three years ago, I hung up the helmet.”

Weekly racing at Lucas Oil Speedway features four divisions – Alps Food Store ULMA Late Models, Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, Carson’s Corner NAPA Street Stocks and USRA B Mods.

The 2016 season is scheduled to fire up April 8-9 with the 3rd annual MLRA Spring Nationals.
