Wheatland, Missouri (September 14, 2016) – A racing legend is coming to Lucas Oil Speedway during the 6th annual ASCS Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial to promote safe driving.

Bobby Allison, the 1983 NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion and a three-time Daytona 500 winner will be at Lucas Oil Speedway on Sept. 23 – the middle night of the three-night open-wheel special. Allison will be appearing as part of the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety’s 2016 Designated Drivers Are Legendary campaign, showcasing the importance of sober driving in communities around Missouri.

“It’s a privilege for us to have Bobby Allison coming to Lucas Oil Speedway and certainly a treat for our fans to have the opportunity to meet a true racing legend, who is promoting an important cause,” Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. “We want to invite everyone to come out and meet Bobby and enjoy a great night of racing at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.”

Bobby Allison was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011.

Allison – inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011 and a winner of 84 Cup races – will sign autographs and post for pictures from 6:45-7:15 p.m. A member of the legendary “Alabama Gang,” Allison will accompany a winning fan in a “designated driver” ceremonial safe ride in a limo around the track prior to the evening’s races.

Fans at sporting venues all over Missouri took personal pledges to drive sober or use a designated driver this summer. Fan pledges were collected from the statewide campaign, and one lucky fan’s pledge will be selected to have the VIP ride with Allison at Lucas Oil Speedway.

The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety is a partnership of safety advocates who have banded together to attack the problem of traffic crashes and deaths. Missouri’s blueprint to “Save More Lives” serves as a guide to reach the coalition’s goal of reducing traffic fatalities to 700 or less by 2016.

The Hockett/McMillin Memorial is three full nights of open-wheel racing, Sept. 22-24, with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network and the WAR Wingless Auto Racing Series Sprint Cars. Full shows for both are set all three nights and Saturday night’s ASCS feature will pay a whopping $10,000 to the winner.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:45 on Sept. 22 and 23 with the timeline one hour earlier on Sept. 24.

This weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway, the Lucas Pro Pulling Nationals is set for programs Friday and Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m. both nights.
