(Warrensburg, Missouri) Blazing hot summer temps returned on Saturday along with drivers and fans to take in another week of championship season racing at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). On hand were 21 B-Mods, 12 Super Stocks, 9 Lightning Sprints, 11 Midwest Mods, and 9 Pure Stocks, for a total of 63 teams.
 
Drivers competed in preliminary heat races to sort out their main event lineups for the main events. All weekly divisions competed for both POWRi national points and track points while guest class Lightning Sprints competed for POWRi points only. All total, there were 11 heat races and five main events.

Aaron Marrant is a former modified champion and past late model winner at CMS, but for this night he was in a B-Mod and earned front-row starting honors alongside Terry Schultz for the 20-lap main event. Schultz led the opening laps, but not without constant and heavy pressure from Marrant, who searched for a way to the front. Just as it appeared that Marrant would challenge for the win, he surprisingly exited the race, ending his bid for the win on lap five. Behind Schultz, previous winners Sturgis Streeter and Stephen Clancy worked hard to close in for the win during a battle that lasted several laps. Another solid field of cars produced some of the top talent in the region with Jacob Ebert, Jake Fetterman, Brad Smith, and Cole Campbell all in search of a top-five finish. Schultz held strong at the helm, until lap 15, when Clancy began closing in on the leader. By lap 16 and 17, the top two literally ran side-by-side at the line in one of the standout races of the year. The bid for the win went right to the checkers, as Schultz was able to keep his machine ahead of a hard-charging Clancy to claim his sixth win of the season. Cancy was second with Streeter third. Campbell was fourth with Smith rounding out the top five.

Landon Nakoneczny of Warrensburg earned his first-ever CMS front-row starting position alongside many times feature winner Marc Carter to pace the 20-lap Super Stock main event. Carter grabbed the early lead over Blaine Ewing and Nakoneczny through lap three. Ewing began to track Carter for the lead by lap four as Jimmy Ngo and Aaron Poe had a close and clean race for the fourth spot. At lap five, Ewing moved to the high side with Carter low, and as the pair came around to complete lap six, Ewing moved to the front of the field, relegating Carter to second. Ngo and Poe’s battle stayed close for several laps until lap 13, when Poe worked his way to the third spot behind Ewing and Carter. At the lap 15 marker, Carter found a line to his liking and began to close in on Ewing for the lead, pressuring him for several laps in the late stages of the race. Ultimately, Ewing took the win, this third of the season and fourth at CMS overall. Carter finished second with Poe third. Jimmy Ngo was fourth with Nakoneczny fifth, for his best-ever CMS finish.

Previous feature winners Dustin Dennison and Dave Meyer began the 20-lap main event from row one. After a quick yellow, Dennison led early, but Dave Meyer moved to the front by lap three with Kenny Prince, making it a three-car battle with Dennison. Prince moved in to challenge Meyer on lap five as the two drivers pulled away from the rest of the field. Meyer drifted too high in turn two just past the mid-point of the race as Prince moved to the front of the field with Meyer hanging on to second. From this point on it was all Prince as he edged away from the rest of the field to capture his second win of the year. Meyer finished second with Dennison third. Logan Roark came away fourth with David Wood fifth.

Blaine Nolker of Hardin, Missouri, and Sugar Creek’s Richard Jameson began the 20-lap main event. Jameson grabbed the early lead over Payton McDowell and Nolker early in the race. By lap six, McDowell moved to the front of the field over Nolker and Reiff as Nolker’s night came to an early end with a flat left rear tire. Reiff moved into the picture by lap seven as McDowell led Jameson. After a pair of mid-race cautions, McDowell remained out front. For the final laps, McDowell eventually pulled away from the remainder of the field and went on to collect his sixth victory of the season. Jameson registered his best finish in second with Reiff coming away third. David Doelz and John Shane completed the top five.

Michael Wagner of Butler, Michigan, and Stanley Kreisel of Warsaw led the sprints to their initial green flag for the 15-lap main event. Kreisel quickly established himself as the leader and began pulling away from the field by building up a full straightaway lead by lap four. Debris flew at lap five to lead to a restart with Kreisel leading Wagner, Josiah King and Eli Wilhelmus. For the rest of the way, Kreisel was never challenged and went on to collect his first CMS victory of the year. Wagner held strong in second with Wilhelmus third, King fourth, and Trice Roden fifth.

Top Ten in points awards after the races on the Patio on the Pub side of the speedway. The meal is free to drivers, spouses, and kids. All others can leave a donation in the jar for the meal with sides. We will have a mini bar set up with canned beer.
