The Labor Day weekend of action concluded on Sunday evening at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) with 59 race teams on hand. There were 17 B-Mods, 14 Super Stocks, 5 POWRi Late Models, 12 Midwest Mods, and 11 Pure Stocks signed in.
Prior to the National Anthem, the drivers organized a surprise 30-year recognition and plaque presentation to owners and promoters Earl and Susan Walls. A special reading was given by Morgan Mace, daughter of Super Strock driver and recognition event organizer Danny McKenzie, with a message from drivers and race families who participate at CMS. In Earl fashion, with a big grin on his face, when asked what he had to say about the presentation and recognition, he said, “let’s race” as the crowd cheered with approval.
Drivers raced their way onto the five main event starting grids through 10 qualifying heat races. At the conclusion of the night’s action, Jon Sheets captured the $2,000 B-Mod victory while Blaine Ewing captured his sixth Super Stock win of the year. Three first-time CMS winners added their name to the stories history of winners at CMS, including Tucker Cox in POWRi Late Models, Brian Meyer in Midwest Mods, and Donne Devers in Pure Stocks.

After a rocky start, the 30-lap B-Mod main event rolled off with Jon Sheets and Shadren Turner showing the way and setting a blistering early race pace. Sheets edged away through lap 12, but Turner pulled close by lap 14 as the pair ran high and low. By lap 18, lapped cars came into play with the two leaders building up a three-fourth’s of the track’s length lead. A close battle for third took place with Sturgis Streeter and Colin Pierce for several laps as Jeremy Lile also ran inside the top five. Past the lap 20 marker, Turner had a couple of close calls with the turns one and two berm as he nearly jumped the cushion, he was able to hang on and regain composure to maintain his second position. Meanwhile, Tim Karrick, who suffered a flat tire at the beginning of the race, charged back through the field and made his way back to the top five. Lile drew a late race caution as he went over the berm in turn four setting up a late-race restart. Sheets was the class of the field on this night even though Turner and Karrick tried to close in on the leader in the waning laps. Sheets ultimately collected the victory, his third career CMS win. Turner was second followed by Karrick, Pierce, Streeter, and Brad Smith to round out the top six.

Tyler Perryman and Blaine Ewing started 1-3 in the 20-lap Super Stock feature with Ewing quickly moving ahead over Perryman, Clayton Campbell, and Jimmy Ngo early in the race. Ewing pulled away, building a half straight-a-way lead over Campbell, Marc Carter, Ngo, and Dave Meyer by lap seven. By halfway, Ewing’s lead grew larger as he then led by a full straightaway. Dean Wille moved into the top five in a close battle with Dave Meyer through lap 15. A three-car incident on lap 18 set up a green, white, and checkered flag finish with Ewing trying to fend off all pursuers in the final two circuits. Campbell spun from contention on lap 19, forcing another restart, before Ewing ultimately went on to capture career win number 11 at CMS. Marc Carter advanced from fifth to take second, followed by Wille in third, and Meyer fourth. Campbell bounced back for fifth while Michael Muskrat came away sixth.

Darren Phillips and Tucker Cox, both in search of their first-ever CMS wins, began the 15-lap late model feature from row one with Cox moving out front. Alan Westling moved forward early as Cox tried to distance himself from the remaining field. Westling drew close to the leader at the lap 11 marker but was unable to mount a challenge on Cox, who claimed his first-ever CMS win and the conclusion of the race. Westling was second, followed by Bobby Ruff, Phillips, and Soctt Bergen. Unfortunately, the POWRi Late Models have been removed from the Hog Roast Nationals weekend and will no longer be racing on September 14.

Fifteen-year-old Alex Schultz and David Wood took the front-row starting honors for the 15-lap Midwest Mods feature with Wood moving out front over Brian Meyer and Schultz. Wood and Schultz quickly built up a sizeable lead on the rest of the field in a close and clean battle for the top spot. By lap eight, Meyer began putting heavy pressure on Wood at the front. By lap 13, the two were side-by-side for the lead and by the next circuit, Meyer grabbed the top spot and went on to collect his first-ever CMS win. Wood ran a close second with Schultz third, Ashlyn Piburn fourth, Terry Williams fifth, and Jesse Hogg sixth at the line.

Blaine Nolker and David Doelz led the Pure Stock field to green for the 15-lap main event with Nolker setting the early race pace over Doelz and Larry Drake. Meanwhile, Landon Harper moved into seventh position by lap seven, up from his eleventh place starting position. Nolker and Doelz distanced themselves from the field by lap 10 just as Nolker experienced heartbreak as he spun from contention in turn three to draw a yellow flag. For the restart, Doelz led Donnie Devers, Drake, Jaren Powrie, and Harper inside the top five. After the restart, Devers pressured Doelz for the lead and by lap 13 moved to the top of the order as the pair raced close for the win. Coming for the checkered flag, Devers had a slight lead, but Doelz’ car spun from contention in turn three, leading to an eighth-place finish. Devers went on to take his first-ever CMS win. Harper simply ran out of laps as his amazing run through the field resulted in a second-place finish. Drake was third, followed by Devin Baker, Brady Tanner, and Powrie in the top six.

Only one race weekend remains at CMS for the 2024 season, which is the Fourth Annual Hog Roast Nationals, which takes place on Saturday, September 14. The race will feature a $3,000-to-win Super Stock main event with B-Mods, the Show-Me Vintage Racing Series, Midwest Mods, and Pure Stocks also competing throughout the night.
There are special event sponsor packages available for the Hog Roast Nationals, presenting a perfect opportunity to get your business name in front of the fans and drivers. All sponsor participation money will go back to the drivers through the payouts. For $250, sponsor packages will get your name on the large screen LED board throughout the night, your logo will be featured on the race program for the night and mentions of your business name will also be made throughout the night on the PA system. In addition, your business name will be used in pre- and post-race press releases, and each business sponsor will receive two grandstand admission tickets.
Fans and drivers will have the option of a $5 ticket upgrade to attend the hog roast after the races. The Hog Roast event will take place in the Pub 13 Building, which is currently not yet re-opened as a Pub. The night will feature music by Char Bar Karaoke.
