The second of four straight nights at the Summit USRA Nationals at the Lucas Oil Speedway saw a host of exciting feature races in four divisions before rain showers washed out the final feature Thursday for the USRA Stock Cars.

Feature victories on Thursday before weather intervened included J.T. Wasmund and Wayne Gaggero (USRA Modifieds), Jon Sheets and Cody King (USRA B-Mods), Nic Hanes (USRA Stock Cars) and Jeremy Crimmins (USRA Hobby Stocks).

Those four divisions plus USRA Tuners will comprise the action on Friday with another round of heat races and features in each of the classes. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m.

Wasmund, Gaggero earn USRA Modified wins: J.T. Wasmund of Pine Island, Minn., led all 20 laps in the first USRA Modified feature. His winning margin over Jason Pursley was half-second after a late caution produced a two-lap sprint.

Wasmund set a blistering pace after jumping out to the lead from the front row. He was 2.6 seconds clear of second-place Pursley by lap six. Thatโ€™s when the first caution came out to take away Wasmundโ€™s big lead.

Nathan Hagar took over the runner-up spot on the restart as Wasmund rolled away to his original lead approaching three seconds. A couple of laps later, Pursley took his turn at the second position.

Kyle Brown wound up third with Dayton Pursley fouth and Kevin Stoa fifth.

The second USRA Modified feature saw Wyatt Gaggero of Wichita, Kan., also lead the entire 20 laps as he held off a late charge by Henry Chambers for the win.

Gaggero started on the front row and opened a one-second lead over Paden Philips when a lap-three caution flew.

Phillips pestered Gaggero for several laps, but was unable to get around the lead. Caution came out once again on lap nine with Gaggeroโ€™s lead at just under a second. Henry Chambers grabbed second after the restart, but no one could catch Gaggero.

The winning margin for Gaggero was 0.350 second over Chambers, with Philips third, Chisholm fourth and Devon Havlik fifth.

Hanes takes USRA Stock Car feature: Nic Hanes of Trenton led from the beginning of the first USRA Stock Car feature to take the 20-lap victory, beating runner-up Kyle Hamby.

Ninth-starting Brock Badger advanced to second by lap nine and was0 .791 second behind Hanes when a caution flew on lap 12. That proved no problem for Hanes, who proved too tough to catch.

Jeff Dixon earned third with Badger fourth and Doug Keller coming home in fifth.

The second USRA Stock Car feature saw Jesse Stovall advance from the sixth starting spot to the lead in just six laps, taking the point away from early leader Todd Staley.

On lap eight, a five-car pileup on the backstretch led to a caution during which rain began to fall and action was halted for the night.

Sheets and King capture USRA B-Mod victories: Jon Sheets of Nevada, Mo., saved his best for last in the first USRA B-Mod feature, making a last-turn pass of Chad Clancy for the win.

Sheets roared to the lead on lap three, as he squeezed past Boone Evans on the outside coming off turn four. Sheets soon checked out to a 1.5-second lead by the midway point over Dan Hovden.

Hovden came charging to make it a race. He was a half-second behind when a caution flew on lap 14. Clancy made a run at Sheets after the restart and passed Sheets on lap 18 when a caution flew as third-running Hovden spun.

Sheets saved one more big charge, sailing around the top side of Clancy coming off turn four with the checkers in sight. Sheetsโ€™ winning margin was 0.195 second over Clancy.

Evans was third, Dan Wheeler fourth and Tianna Mithun fifth.

As close as Sheets’ victory was, the second USRA B-Mod feature was a rout. Cody King of Fanshawe, Okla., put a beatdown on the field, leading every lap and beating runner-up Michael Taylor III by five seconds.

King rolled to a 2.1-second lead nine laps in the race with fellow front-row starter Kenny Nutter in second. King kept pouring it on, stretching his margin to four seconds by lap 12.

As the laps clicked by without a caution, King went unchallenged to the checkers. Dustin Kruse was second with Taylor third, Tyler Cadwallader fourth and Harley Dais fifth.

Crimmins drives to USRA Hobby Stock triumph: Jeremy Crimmins of Fort Dodge, Iowa, took the lead on lap eight and went on to grab the USRA Hobby Stock feature win.

Crimmins took the lead from Bryce Sommerfeld, who had led every lap until that point. They staged a side-by-side battle for the majority of the next several laps until Crimmins opened up a one-second lead by lap 15.

Chris Hovden made it to second by lap 16 but he was 1.6 seconds behind the leader. There was no catching Crimmins as he held on to beat Hovden by 1.3 seconds.

Sommerfeld came home in third with Nick Brady fourth and Dustin Gulbrandson fifth.

Action continues Friday: Grandstands open at 4:30 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m. on Friday. The racing program will start 30 minutes earlier on Saturday.

USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks are in action for amother night ofย heat races and qualifying features with the USRA Tuners joining the action.

Saturday will see last chance races and main events for all classes, culminating with championship features in all five divisions.
