Inside Line Promotions – BARBERVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2019) – Brian Brown posted the second-best result of his DIRTcar Nationals career last Saturday when he garnered a fifth-place finish.

It was a strong result to a solid week for Brown, who made the dash during three of the four rounds prior to the finale being rained out at Volusia Speedway Park.

The spectacle began last Wednesday with the first of two Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions races. Brown qualified 11th quickest overall – the best in his group – before maneuvering from fourth to second place in a heat race. That earned a spot into a dash. Unfortunately, Brown was hit by debris during the race and he ended fifth.

“The first night I got caught with a clod or something in the dash,” he said. “I saw something big coming through and I turned my head at the last minute. It blasted my shoulder and the side of my head. The impact caused a pretty good gash by my eye. I got very, very lucky. It could have been way worse. The helmet definitely did its job. In the feature I couldn’t get it to quit bleeding. It was running in my eye. It was not the best circumstance.”

The night closed with a 17th-place finish in the feature.

Thursday’s race was one Brown ended early. After timing in 13th quickest in qualifying – second in his group – and finishing fourth in his heat race, Brown exited the feature midway through the race and he was credited with a 24th-place result.

“The next night we just weren’t as good as we needed to be,” he said. “We pulled off running 14th or 15th and just got back to the basics during the rest of the event.”

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series kicked off its season at the half-mile oval on Friday. Brown qualified seventh quickest before he placed second in a heat race to make the dash. A fourth-place run in the dash lined him up on the outside of the second row for the A Main.

“In the feature I made two or three mistakes,” he said. “Every time I made a mistake I got passed. I can’t do that.”

Brown salvaged a seventh-place finish and he continued to improve on Saturday, timing in third quickest overall before winning a heat race. A runner-up result in the dash was followed by a fifth-place finish in the A Main, which was only one spot shy of his career-best result at the track.

“I felt like we were pretty good,” he said. “Our car wasn’t as good as it needed to be from the green flag on, but we managed a top five. It’s a tough field. To get a top five with this group is a good result.”

Sunday’s event finale rained out.

“As an owner I’m pretty happy with how we ran in general,” Brown said. “We were in contention and got some solid finishes. Our Garrett engines were solid all weekend long. That’s a good sign going forward. We could easily be sitting at home watching. Running in the hunt with those guys and getting a top five, and getting Chad, Nate and my dad to work together will pay dividends. Our next event is an important one. I’m looking forward to it. FVP is a great partner of ours and will have customers and employees there both nights.”

Brown will take the next couple of weekends off before resuming competition with the World of Outlaws Feb. 27-28 at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown presented by Star Nursery.
