Quincy, Illinois (05/24/11) – 12 year-old, Jake Griffin overcame another hurdle in his young career by topping his first ever ULMA Late Model Series feature on Saturday night at Scotland County Raceway (Memphis, Missouri).

With three events scheduled in three days the team opened the weekend with a weekly racing series event on Friday night at Callaway Raceway (Fulton, Missouri). Jake would start 16th in the feature and raced his way up to the seventh position by the race’s midway point before receiving hard contact from behind, which broke the j-bar. He would battle an obviously ill-handling car from that point forward to score a 10th place finish at the checkered flag. Rain would arrive before the Open Wheel Modified feature, which caused it to be nixed.
Saturday night was a huge night for Jake as he claimed his first career ULMA Late Model Series win at Scotland County Speedway (Memphis, Missouri). After starting fourth on the grid for the feature event, Griffin raced his way to the front of the pack early in the event before using the cushion to take the lead from pole sitter, Robby Warner. Once at the front of the pack, Jake never looked back on his way to his first career win in the #08 Bob Pierce Late Model. It was a huge night for the team, and hopefully the first of many wins to come in 2011!
Jake was understandably excited, and commented, “It means a lot to get this first ULMA win, and it really means a lot to see how excited my Dad and the whole team is!”
Jake would also be in action in his UMP Open Wheel Modified at Scotland County Raceway, and each night the team continues to get the car more dialed-in. He would race his way to a tenth place finish in the feature event.
Rain interrupted the team’s season again on Sunday night at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) as precipitation set in before hot laps forcing the event to be canceled.

With the Memorial Day weekend rapidly approaching the team will enter a trio of events over the course of three day stretch, May 27th-29th. The busy holiday weekend will get underway with ULMA Late Model and UMP Modified action at Callaway Raceway (Fulton, Missouri) Scotland County Speedway (Memphis Missouri) on Friday and Saturday night respectively. Sunday night will find the team at 24 Raceway (Moberly, Missouri) for a $1,000 to win ULMA Late Model Series event.
