Taylor Trounces Ironman Late Models for Second of Season!

By Steve Birmingham

September 4, 2004; Granite City, IL – Springfield's Dick Taylor said in Victory Lane that he loved coming to Tri-City Speedway because it was his favorite place to run, and he showed why by leading every lap to grab his second Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Racing Series Ironman Late Model win of the season.

The Illinois legend felt brief pressure at the start of the 25-lapper from Pat Ryan and Steve Meyer., Jr., but within three laps had a five-length lead over the duo. Several cautions slowed the pace but on each restart Taylor just up and left the rest of the field to fight it out for the place and show positions. Chasing Taylor across the line were Terry James, Justin Anderson, Ryan and Matt Hartnett. The heats went to Meyer, Jr., and Taylor.

Steve Maisel had his hands full of Mountain Dew Sportsman point-leader Bert Jacoby for 20 laps but managed to beat back the challenges to win his sixth of the season. Maisel was able to manage a slim margin at the checkers with Jacoby, Terry Chester, Rick Squires and Sam Kizer rounding out the top five. The qualifiers fell to Chester and Jacoby.

B.J. Seets jumped to the top of the swift quarter-mile dirt and blasted to his first Budweiser Modified win of the season ahead of cousin Tommie Seets, Jr., Ed Lenhardt, John Stanton and Joe Dresch. The heats were won by Clint Eckenrodt, Stanton and Lenhardt; Ricky Huebner won the Semi.

Mark Pflueger won his second Domino's Street Stock feature of the year, topping Andy Beavers, Brad Yotter, Shawn Teeske and Brandon Hogenson. The heats were won by Pflueger, Teeske and Beavers with Dave Parker nabbing the Semi.

Aaron Wood nailed down his eighth Auto Trader Factory Stock win, besting Todd Erickson, Ken Bell, Lloyd Donnelson and Robert Bussen. Wood and Donnelson took the heat wins.
