Lucas Oil Late Model SeriesWAYCROSS, GA (March 24, 2011) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its first ever appearance in the state of Texas on Friday and Saturday, April 1st and 2nd. The nation’s premier dirt late model series will be making its inaugural visit to Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, TX.

The two-day extravaganza will kick off on Thursday Night, March 31st with an open practice session. On Friday, April 1st there will be preliminary night action on the track for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with Red Buck Cigars Time Trials and Heat Races. On Saturday, April 2nd the stars of the LOLMDS take to the track for the B-Mains followed by the 100-lap $20,000 to win feature event.

Lonestar Speedway first opened in 1983 and in November of 2008 Lisa and Sam Hafertepe, Sr. purchased the facility. The track has undergone a major facelift over this past winter as the Hafertepe’s converted what was a ½ mile high banked oval down to a 3/8th mile high-banked race track that Lisa Hafertepe said was necessary for the long-term survival of the track.

“We listened to the local racers complain about how hard this track was on their equipment. After long deliberation we decided to shorten it and we are so happy we did,” said Lisa Hafertepe. “We ran our first race on the new track a few weeks ago and it was really racy and all the drivers really liked it,” said Hafertepe, whose son Sam Jr. is a well-known sprint car driver.

“Having the first race in Texas for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is quite an honor,” proclaimed Lisa Hafertepe. “We are looking forward to some great racing by a professional organization, I know the entire area is abuzz about the Lucas Oil Series coming to Lonestar Speedway, the fans have requested it and we want to bring more big dirt late model races to East Texas,” commented Lisa Hafertepe, whose track is located about two hours east of Dallas, TX.

“We started conversations with the Hafertepe’s last year regarding them bringing the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to their track, and we felt that in 2011 we would be able to do it. I know that several people affiliated with the series have never been to Texas, and it will give the fans an opportunity to see the great racers that run our series,” said Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Director, Ritchie Lewis.

Lonestar Speedway has a seating capacity of 10,000 and when the Hafertepe’s took over three years ago it had been stripped of all the wiring, needed new seats, painting needed to be done and now in 2011 they get to spotlight their facility by hosting the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for a $20,000 to win feature event.
