Busy July on tap with Summernationals and 360 Sprints
(Peoria, IL) On the heels of a successful AMA All-Star Flat Track event June 17, Peoria Speedway promoter Curt Mottaz has added an August 19 return date for the motorcycle series. The August 19 “Prelude to the Grand Nationals” will now be part of “Grand Nationals weekend” in the Peoria area, cumulating in the AMA TT Nationals at the PMC Race Park on Sunday, August 21.
“We were very impressed with the way the AMA ran their program a few weeks ago, and the fan support was tremendous”, said Mottaz. “We think the August event will be even bigger and better, and now AMA fans have a place to go the Friday of TT weekend. We are really excited to see them come back and look to make this an annual event.”
In other scheduling news, the Northern All-Star Late Model Series will make its’ first appearance at the track on Thursday, September 1 with a $2,000 to-win race. The Midwest Outlaw
UMP PROGRAM WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29
The track will host a full UMP program on Wednesday, June 29, with local and national UMP points being awarded. Rain washed away the racing program on Saturday, June 25 so the decision was made to make the race up mid-week. UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Pro Street and Hornets will be racing. Gates open at 4, with hot laps at 6.
SUMMERNATIONALS JULY 6
The UMP “Summernationals” return to Peoria Speedway on Wednesday, July 6, paying $5,000 to-win for the 40 lap feature event. GRT “house car” driver Jack Sullivan from Greenbriar, AR is the defending champion of the event. UMP Modifeds and Hornets will also be racing. SPRINT INVADERS RETURN JULY 24
After a wildly successful event in 2010, the Ideal Ready Mix 360 Sprint Invaders make their return to Peoria Speedway on Sunday, July 24. UMP Modifieds, Hornets and the Illinois Lighting Sprints will be the support classes for the Iowa-based Invaders series.
PEORIA “INTERNATIONAL” SPEEDWAY?
To date, 302 different competitors from 20 US states, New Zealand, Australia and Japan have competed so far at the track in 2011. The highest car count so far was the 128 cars during the May 30 race. The AMA race in June saw a whopping 106 riders from 16 states, Japan and Australia compete, with even more riders expected for the August 19 event.
