EAST MOLINE, IL – August 4, 2013 – When Ray Cox Jr. was a kid he used to walk down a few house to visit with Ronnie Weedon. Weedon was a close friend, a strong competitor, and someone Cox looked up to. Since the passing of Weedon in 2005, Cox has had this memorial race marked on his calendar year in and year out and Sunday night at the Quad City Speedway Cox captured his first Ronnie Weedon Memorial crown.

A stout 27 car field checked in to compete for the Bully Dog 8th Annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial presented by J&J Camper Sales featuring the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds in a 30 lap feature. Maquoketa, Iowa’s, Cox took advantage of his inside second row starting spot to take control of the lead after a lap 6 caution. The field was bunched up a few times with cautions which gave Marshalltown, Iowa’s, Richie Gustin Jr. opportunities to challenge for the lead but Cox would not be denied. Gustin would hold on to second with the most impressive run of the night coming from the third place car the #70 of Mitch Morris. Morris had to race his way through a consolation race which gave him a 14th starting spot in the feature. Matt Werner would take fourth followed by Eric Barnes, who started 13th. Heat race winners were Werner, Kevin Goben, and Ryan Dolan. Consolation race winners were Barnes and Morris. K&S Promotions would also like to thank Doo Dah Dave, Garden City Tattoo, and Bert Autoplex for also sponsoring the evening’s events.

The IMRA Midget Lites were on hand again with another solid field of cars. When checkered flag waved Andy Baugh, for the third time in a row, was in victory lane. The first seven laps Baugh and Korey Weyant traded the lead twice a lap but on lap 10 mechanical failure ended Weyant’s night. Baugh would go unchallenged the remaining five laps. Aaron Schuck would take second followed by Billy Brickley, who started ninth, Jeremy Hull, and Jack Sandall. Heat race winners were Baugh and J. Hull.

It was the same old song and dance in the McDonald’s Mod Lites with Shon Sander collecting another victory. Sander held off early challenges from Jason Masengarb and Bryan Brinker. Masengarb would take second followed by Brinker, Mike Dominguez, and Gary Snyder.

A tough field of 16 Weber Auto Group Street Stocks took to the track for the their 15 lap feature with Colona’s Rob Nylin grabbing his second career feature win. Chris Lawrence took second after an early race caution sent him to the rear of the field. Cary Brown would take third followed by Gary Weatherington Jr. and Perry Gellerstedt. Heat race winners were Chad Coyne and Lawrence.

The Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models stole the show in their 25 lap feature. Rob Toland would take the lead on lap 6 with Mike Zemo Jr. in tow. Toland and Zemo would battle early on with Sterling’s Travis Denning coming on strong running up against the wall around the track. Just past halfway Zemo would have mechanical failures ending his night. Todd Malmstrom running his normal line down around the tires would take over the lead with Denning continuing to run up against the wall. They would run side by side for several laps. Nate Beuseling would get by Denning and challenge Malmstrom, running door to door. Malmstrom would hold on to win his forth consecutive feature at QCS. Beuseling would take second followed by Denning, Toland, and Mike Cothron. Heat race winners were Toland and Malmstrom.

Unfortunately, due to city curfew, the 4-Cylinder feature was not run. There will be double features for the 4-Cylinders this Sunday, August 11th. Heat race winners were Aaron Hitt and Brandon Dahl.

Racing continues this Sunday, August 11th, with the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models, Toppert Services UMP Modifieds, U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds, Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, and 4-Cylinders. Hot laps will be at 5:15pm with the Mr. Fix It Time Trials to follow.
