Voice of Salukis Grand Marshal for Ted Horn 100 at DuQuoin

DuQuoin State FairDuQuoin, IL (August 20, 2013)-Bob Sargent of Track Enterprises, the promoter of motor sports at the 91st DuQuoin State Fair and the sanctioning body, the United States Auto Club, are pleased to announce that Mike Reis, the radio voice of the Southern Illinois Salukis for 35 years, will serve as Grand Marshal and honorary starter for the 60th running of the Ted Horn 100 on Sunday night, September 1 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Reis is well known throughout the region for his work on the Southern Illinois University football, basketball and baseball broadcasts and has been the voice of Southern Illinois University sports since 1978. An SIU alum, Reis began his career in radio at the university station in 1975 as a student and moved to WCIL in Carbondale in 1976. Currently the Director of External and Broadcast Operations for the SIU Athletic Department, the Ohio native has become a fixture in the lives of Saluki sports fans and his calls of some of the greatest moments in Saluki basketball and football are legendary. Reis has been honored for his work by being selected to the Saluki Sports Hall of Fame and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, as well as being named Illinois Sportscaster of the Year in 2011.

Upon learning of his selection Reis said, “I am grateful that the folks at Track Enterprises and USAC thought of me and I am honored to serve as grand marshal and honorary starter for the Ted Horn 100 at DuQuoin.”

Racin fans and Saluki Nation can join Mike at the 91st DuQuoin State Fair and watch as he twirls the green flag to start the Ted Horn 100 while the USAC Silver Crown field thunders below him at 150 miles an hour. The 60th Ted Horn 100 is scheduled for Sunday night September 1 with the field taking the green flag at approximately 8 p.m.
