Dillon is the grandson of legendary race owner Richard Childress.

“I was doing a lot of praying,” said car owner Richard Childress when asked how he watched last laps of the race.

The race was all about strategy…..whether tires, fuel or the weather all were relevant in 100 lap Nationwide race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

But for Dillon it was all about fuel strategy. His car ran out of gas after his burnout celebration and had to be pushed to victory circle.

Kyle Busch finished second and was the race polesitter earning his 40th career NASCAR Nationwide Series and his series leading fourth this year. Busch won the Nationwide race at Brickyard last year.

“Overall our car was not as good as last year,” said Busch. “We gave it away in turn one [last restart] and he got the lead and it was over.”

Matt Kenseth finished third posting his second top-10 finish in two races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ty Dillon was the highest finishing rookie. Chase Elliott leads the point standings by 4 points over Regan Smith.

There were all three cautions, two for debris and one for fluid on the track when Jeffrey Earnhardt’s engine failed between turns three and four.
