Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2015) – Derek Hagar has been looking forward to this weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Bubba Raceway Park for quite a while.

Hagar will make his debut at the unique, egg-shaped track in Ocala, Fla., this Friday and Saturday.

“The race track has sweeping turns in one and two,” he said. “You’re hauling a lot of speed. Turns three and four look really, really tight. You have to drive it a lot different than most tracks. I think that place will play into our favor. It looks like a track I’d like.”

Hagar is coming off a frustrating outing last weekend at East Bay Raceway Park with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour during the Ronald Laney Memorial.

“It wasn’t as great as we wanted it to be,” he said. “We had a couple of bad draws and it put us behind in points. It’s one of those places you needed to start up front. If we’d have drawn up front in a heat race it would have been a different weekend. With the quality of cars that were running it was hard to make up any ground.”

Hagar started fifth in his heat race during both preliminary nights last Thursday and Friday. He was unable to make up much ground and was relegated to a B Main each night. Unfortunately, he finished shy of a transfer both nights.

“We were decent all weekend,” he said. “We just struggled to get any extra grip to do any passing.”

Preliminary points lined Hagar up fifth during a qualifier to kick off Saturday’s finale. Unfortunately, he dropped a position and was sent to a C Main. Hagar finished second in the C Main to transfer to the back of a B Main, but he was only able to gain one position to finish 13th.

“It was just ride around the top, follow the leader,” he said. “You couldn’t really do a slide job because the momentum would carry them around the top. It was one of those weekends that you want to move on from and hopefully we’ll get better results this weekend at Bubba Raceway Park.”
