Macon Speedway     A very special weekend of racing and entertainment is taking place to celebrate the Independance Day holiday at Macon Speedway.  On Friday night, the first of back-to-back nights was completed for POWRi Freedom Fest.  In addition to the POWRi Midgets and Micros, Wingless Micros, and Street Stocks were also on hand.

The first feature on track was the 30-lap event for the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets.  22 drivers were trackside for the main event after setting the starting field from the 39 attendees.  When the green dropped, Justin Grant pulled out front with Ryan Robinson and Andrew Felker in tow.  Felker moved into second after the race’s first caution, to set his sights on the top spot.  On lap 11, Felker pulled off a slide job to take the top spot.  Five laps later, Robinson took the lead away from Felker.  His lead was short lived as they diced through traffic and Felker was determined to get back out front.  On lap 18, Felker took over and raced his way to the checkered, as slide job after slide job took place on the Mighty Macon oval.  Following the Carl Junction, Missouri driver to the exciting victory was Darren Hagen, who made some late passes to take second.  Grant, Spencer Bayston, and Robinson rounded out the top five.  The Midgets will be back for more on Saturday.

Ayrton Gennetten paced the POWRi Speedway Motors Micros at the start of their 20-lap A-Main.  After a caution plagued first four laps, the field got sorted out and the action picked up.  Gennetten was receiving plenty of pressure from his closest challenger, Nathan Benson.  Christopher Cochran joined to make it a three car lead battle up front.  Dicing inside, outside, and through the middle of traffic, Gennetten was able to fend off some strong challenges.  After a late yellow, Benson, another Missouri competitor, raced into the lead on lap 18 to take the victory.  Gennetten took second, Cochran third, Tucker Klaasmeyer fourth, and Dereck King fifth.

Point leader, Terry Reed, of Decatur, IL led from green-to-checker to take yet another Street Stock feature win.  Larry Russell, Jr. and Bobby Beiler completed the podium finishers.

In the non-wing Micro feature, Decatur, IL driver Tony Clifton took the lead at the green and went on to claim the main event victory.  Daniel Robinson and Tyler Vantroll took second and third.  The non-wing cars will be back on Saturday night for a 20-lap special event, paying extra money.

Day #2 of Freedom Fest will be Saturday, July 4.  Both POWRi divisions will be on hand in addition to non-wing micros and the Billingsley Towing Modifieds.  From 4:00-7:00, there will be live musical entertainment in the parking lot with Brian Shartzer and the Garth Brooks Tribute Band.  The concert is free to attend.

Pits will open at 3:00, grandstands at 4:00, hotlaps at 6:00, and racing will begin at 7:00.  Grandstand admission is $15, while children 11 and under are free.
