Moyer2(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) As the 12th Annual ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals’ readies to kick off later tonight in his home state, Billy Moyer would like to formally announce his semi-retirement from Dirt Late Model racing. The proud owner of 804 feature wins during his illustrious career, Billy will retire from a full-time racing schedule at the completion of his 2015 campaign. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer will still remain a huge part of the sport he loves, but in a different capacity than behind the wheel.

“I am looking forward to retiring from a full-time race schedule at the end of this season,” commented Moyer recently. “While I will take some time off during the off-season to enjoy life a little bit, my focus will be on building Billy Moyer Victory Race Cars and providing technical and sales support to Karl Performance and its customers. You will still see me around at the race track supporting Billy, Jr. and all of our customer base. From time-to-time, I may also jump back behind the wheel for research, development, and testing purposes.”

Billy is the only 6-time champion of the ‘World 100’ at Eldora (OH) Speedway and has won virtually every major Dirt Late Model event since he started his auto racing career in 1977. The popular driver known as “Mr. Smooth” has conquered such races as the ‘Magnolia State 100’ (8x), the ‘Prairie Dirt Classic’ (5x), the ‘Gopher 50’ (5x), the ‘USA Nationals’ (5x), the ‘Topless 100’ (4x), the ‘Illini 100’ (3x), the ‘Jackson 100 (3x), the ‘Show-Me 100’ (3x), the ‘Cotton Pickin 100’ (3x), the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ (2x), the ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ (2x), and the ‘Ralph Latham Memorial’ (2x) on multiple occasions, while he has also reached victory lane in the ‘Knoxville Late Model Nationals,’ the ‘Indiana Icebreaker,’ the ‘Hillbilly 100,’ the ‘Dixie Shootout,’ and the ‘Jani-King Southern Showdown.’

The Batesville, Arkansas transplant also enjoyed success on several different national and regional touring series. Billy was the 2013 National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) Series Champion and was crowned World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion on three different occasions (1988, 1989, and 2005). He was also the 1997 Champion on the ultra-competitive Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series circuit driving for GVS Racing, while he also received accolades for winning Championships on the USAC and NCRA tours in the 80s. Billy has also amassed 90 career victories on the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals while racking up an incredible six titles (’93, ’94, ’96, ’99, ’01, ’03). A native of nearby Des Moines, Iowa, Billy will tackle the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa from September 24-26. The three-day crown jewel spectacular at the 1/2-mile Marion County Fairgrounds speedplant will start with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary events on Thursday and Friday. The grand finale in the Hawkeye State on Saturday will be headlined by a 100-lap main event, which will once again pay $40,000 to the winner. Billy swept the entire three-day program back in 2010 and will be gunning for his second ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals’ title this weekend.
