Haubstadt, IN – May 14 – David Gravel won the 40 lap World of Outlaws
Craftsman Sprint Car feature Saturday night at the Tri-State
Speedway. It was his second win of the 2016 campaign and first ever
win at the Class Track. Gravel led every lap. He proved in
qualifications for the 30 drivers that he had the fastest car. He
set quick time at 12.155 seconds. He then finished second in the
first heat and second in the pole dash. The outside front row
starting spot for the feature backed up by a flawless run was all
that he needed. His closest pursuers included runner-up Brady Bacon
and Parker Price-Miller. At times the two were in their own race for
second. Twenty four starters provided plenty of traffic for the
leaders to negotiate.
Gravel who hails from Watertown, Connecticut, was at the wheel of the
David Gravel / CJB Motorsports Sprinter sponsored by Big Game Tree
Stands. It is just his fourth year to compete with the World of
Outlaws. He was the series Rookie of the Year in 2013. “Our car was
really good here! I could see Brady. It was hard to pass the lapped
cars. I am happy I could hold him off.”
Brady Bacon finished second in the WoO feature at Tri-State Speedway
for a second season in a row. “David got a couple of breaks in
traffic. In open traffic I could catch back up to him. This track
is one of our best chances each year to take a win!” Bacon made a
valiant effort over the last 24 laps.
Parker Price-Miller turned in a career best WoO finish with the
third. Donny Schatz was fourth in the feature and Kerry Madsen was
fifth, Points leader Brad Sweet led a second five including Kraig
Kinser, Joey Saldana, Terry McCarl, and Shane Stewart. Jamie Veal
took the Hard Charger Award with an overall improvement of seven
spots.
Parker Price-Miller, Donny Schatz, and Kerry Madsen won the three
heats. Madsen also won the Dash for the top six competitors. Logan
Schuchart won the Last Chance Race.
Mark Lamont of Crossville, IL, raced to victory in the UMP Open Wheel
Modified feature. Lamont started on the front row and led the entire
25 laps. The main event for the modifieds quickly became a four car
dash out front as the leaders pulled away from the bulk of the field.
Lamont had the speed to hold off Matt Lane, Levi Kissinger, and
Tyler Nicely. The foursome finished in that order. The victory was
worth $1,000.
Tyler Nicely, Mark Lamont, and Levi Kissinger took the three modified
heat races. Steven Schnapf won the B Main. Thirteen of the 29
drivers present started the B hoping to earn one of the three
remaining transfer spots. Clay Lane was the only scratch. His car
expired in a cloud of smoke as he was leading the first heat race.
Stan Beadles had a similar problem in the feature. Flames under his
car had to be extinguished in the infield. Beadles had been running
fifth.
The modifieds will return for the next race at Tri-State Speedway
which will be on Memorial Day Weekend. The Memorial Weekend Classic
on Sunday May 29th will also feature the MSCS Sprint Cars and the
MMSA Mini-Sprints. The sprint car feature will pay $2,500 to win.
