Macon SpeedwayNASCAR Personalities Join Macon Stars For Monday Event

Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest and most popular race weekends in the United States. With the running of the Indy 500, the Coca Cola 600, and many special events across the country, fans flock to see their favorite drivers on track. This is no different in Central Illinois, where Macon Speedway will be holding its second event in three days with a Memorial Day Special event on Monday afternoon.

Coming off a Saturday night event that saw Lovington, IL driver Jeremy Nichols claim feature wins in Sportsman and Street Stocks, Springfield, IL’s Guy Taylor take the Pro Late Model win, Germantown, IL driver Rodney Standerfer win in the Billingsley Towing Modified class, and Decatur, IL’s Michael Gossett take the checkered in the Hornet division, many other drivers from all across the state will head to the 1/5-mile high banked dirt track on Monday vying for top spots.

Monday’s action will be non-stop with seven divisions scheduled to race. Headlining the event will be the Billingsley Towing UMP Modified division with the stellar field of Macon Speedway stars facing off against NASCAR’s Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace. Schrader and Wallace are partners along with Tony Stewart and Bob Sargent in the Macon Speedway operation. The two drivers, despite running a large amount of events across the country in their open wheel cars, will have a tough challenge beating the likes of Rodney Standerfer, Dave Crawley, Jr., Curt Rhodes, and a barrage of others who pace the track on a weekly basis.

In addition to the Modifieds, the Midwest Big Ten Series Pro Late Models will be racing. It will be the second event on the year for the series, after Jackonville’s event on Friday was postponed due to rain. The series opened at Lincoln Speedway on May 6 with Nick Bauman taking the victory. Jake Little, Roben Huffman, Andy Minett, and Brandon Eskew claimed top five finishes. The Pro Late Models will be running for $600 to win on Monday afternoon.

Also on the card are the UMP B-Mods, UMP Street Stocks, and UMP Hornets, regular divisions at the speedway. Part time classes making their second appearances of the year are the POWRi/Illini D-II Midgets and the Micros, presented at Macon by the Beach House. In all, the seven divisions will give every race fan a taste of all kinds of divisions and types of cars.

Monday’s events will start an hour earlier to all fans and competitors to make it back to their homes at a reasonable time. Pits are set to open at 2:30, grandstands at 4:00, competitor pill draw will end at 4:50, hotlaps begin at 5:00, and racing action will take the green at 6:00. Grandstand admission is just $15 for adults and free for kids 11 and under.
