(Warrensburg, Missouri) Persistent late afternoon rains soaked the grounds of Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Saturday causing a one-hour delay in the race program. The track maintenance crew worked feverishly to skim the track and pack it in for competition with help from the drivers and by 8:30, the night’s heat races began.
 
For the final night of championship season points racing, feature races were Blaine Ewing in Super Stocks, Stephen Clancy in B-Mods, Blaine Ewing in Super Stocks, Jerran Falke in Lightning Sprints, Dave Meyer in Midwest Mods, and Darin Porter in Pure Stocks.
 
The 2023 season champions are Sturgis Streeter-B-Mods, Aaron Poe-Super Stocks, Dustin Dennison-Midwest Mods, and Spencer Reiff-Pure Stocks. Congratulations to all the champions on their successful season!

Blaine Ewing and Nathan Vaughn began the night’s 20-lap Super Stock main event from row one with Vaughn quickly moving his machine out front. An early yellow flag slowed the field with Vaughn in front of the pack over Ewing, Devin Irvin, and Jimmy Ngo but disaster struck Vaughn, after he spun in turn four. For the restart, Ewing moved to the front with Irvin, Jimmy Ngo, and Nathan Williams inside the top four. At the halfway point, Ewing led Irvin, Ngo, and substitute driver Terry Schultz. For the final push to the checkered flag, Ewing held strong up front, but behind him it was a mad dash to the finish, between Schultz and Irvin. In the end, Ewing collected his fourth victory of the season. Schultz gained ten spots to finish second with Irvin third. Aaron Poe also gained ten spots to finish fourth, Ngo was fifth, while Nathan Williams settled for sixth.

At the start of the night, Sturgis Streeter and Stephen Clancy were both still in contention for the B-Mod championship with just a 28-point separation. For the main event, Jeremy Lile made his return to action payoff as he and Bronson Wicker earned front row starting honors. Wicker looked strong early on with Lile and Clancy just behind him. Clancy moved into second and then pressure for the lead inside of five laps complete. At the lap seven marker, Clancy worked his way to the front, relegating Wicker to second in a close battle with Lile. Wicker stayed right with Clancy as the pair used two distinct lanes to work their way around. Meanwhile, Lile, Brad Smith, Jacob Ebert, and Michael Taylor all fought for positions inside the top five at the halfway point. By lap 15, Clancy found a better line and began putting some distance between himself and the Lile and Wicker battle for second. Streeter moved up to the top five in the closing laps of the race. In the end, Clancy went on to collect his fourth win of the season and 21st career CMS victory in the caution-free run for the checkered flag. Lile was a strong second with Taylor registering his best-ever CMS finish in third. Wicker also had a best-ever CMS finish of fourth, followed by Streeter and Ebert. In the end, Clancy’s bid for a championship fell 12 points shy and the 2023 championship went to Sturgis Streeter, who scored two victories and consistent finishes to cap his most successful season ever at CMS.

David Wood and Dave Meyer began the 20-lap Midwest Mods from row one with Meyer grabbing the top spot. By lap two, Meyer led by six car lengths over Wood, Devin Wetzel, and Ashlyn Piburn. By lap five, with Meyer comfortably out front, Wetzel and David Wood had a fantastic battle going for second high and low on the track. Wetzel moved to the second spot by lap six behind Meyer as Wood stayed close to Wetzel for the position. Later, newly crowned track champion Dustin Dennison moved to the top four to join the pair in the battle for second. Just shy of halfway, the yellow slowed the field for a final time to set up a fantastic dash to the finish. Wetzel began pressuring Meyer for the lead with Dennison lurking. Over the closing laps, lapped cars had the drivers guessing what lane to take around the track. Wetzel pulled to the inside a few times on Meyer in the final circuits and gave one more strong push to the finish on the final corner, coming up just shy of the victory as Meyer collected his fourth win of the season and 38th career CMS win. Dennison capped his first-ever CMS championship season with a third-place finish with Wood fourth, Johnny McGinnis fifth, and C.J. Christensen sixth.

David Doelz and Darin Porter earned front row starting positions for the 15-lap Pure Stock feature with Porter grabbing the early lead. Aaron Welschmeyer quickly moved towards the front just as the yellow flew for the first time over the field. Porter was strong and kept his machine out front as Welschmeyer took second over Doelz with Shayne Healea fourth. By lap six, Porter began distancing himself from the rest of the field with Doelz left to battle for second with Welschmeyer. A late yellow flag restarted the field one final time to set up a run for the checkers, but on this night, Porter was too strong and kept his machine out front to collect the victory. Doelz had a strong run to second with Welschmeyer third, Payton McDowell fourth, Healea fifth, and Mallory Stiffler sixth.

The Lightning Sprints turned some very quick times on the speedway during their heat race action, with a time of 13.740 being registered by Jerran Falke of Odessa in his second heat race victory from the tale of the field. For the main event, the track was still lightning fast, aptly named for the sprinters when Falke and Mark Billings led the field to green for the start of the 15-lap main event. Things got off to a frightening start when Kenny Bowers’ car went airborne between turns three and four, thankfully he immediately crawled from the wreck under his own power as soon as the car came to a halt after flipping. When racing resumed, Falke and Billings resumed their battle for the top spot. By lap seven, Billings found himself out front as he and Falke distanced themselves from third place running Trice Roden. Past the final caution on lap 8, the battle for the lead heated up with Falke putting heavy pressure on Billings. By lap 11, Falke took the lead back from Billings, who stayed close to the end. When the checkered flag waived, it was Falke who capped his fast night off with the victory over Billings and Roden. Jeff Bard, Ken Billings, and Mike Tindell completed the top six.

September 16 – Race #22 – 3rd Annual Hog Roast Nationals, $3,000-to-Win POWRi Super Stocks! Plus, $1,000-to-win POWRi B-Mods, also running POWRi Midwest Mods and Pure Stocks. The Top Ten in points awards after the races on the Patio on the Pub side of the speedway. The meal is free to drivers, spouses, and kids. All others can leave a donation in the jar for the meal with sides. We will have a mini bar set up with canned beer.
