Springfield Raceway Gearing-Up For Larry Phillips Memorial Saturday November 3rd

Springfield RacewaySpringfield, Mo.- The staff at the Springfield Raceway are gearing up for what is becoming a can’t miss event as the running of the 11th Annual Larry Phillips Memorial presented by Joplin’s Home Pro Improvement Store.

The Late Model feature will award $2575 to the winner while just making and starting the Main Event will pay $475 to start. This will be the 4th season that Springfield Raceway has held the event which started in 2002 to honor the Springfield 5 time NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Champion and winner of both Regional and National Asphalt and Dirt Victories. This is an unsanctioned Late Model event with the tire rules allowing the Hoosier WRS D55, Hoosier LM40 and the Hoosier Spec 1600. Weight rules and Spoiler rules are the same as the MARS Series(2300 LBS.) while Steel Block Motors may run at 2200LBS. Passing points will help to set the feature line-ups while Car entry fee is $100. Raceceivers are required.

Support classes will include A Modifieds, B Modifieds, Legends, Midwest Modz, and Pure Stocks. Pure Stock drivers may bring their track rules to compete under or they must compete under Springfield Raceway rules.

Racing Action begins at 5PM while the Pit Gate opens at 1PM. Hot laps are scheduled for 4PM and Drivers meeting is 3:30. Draw cut-off will be at 4:10. Drivers arriving after draw cut-off may compete but will receive no passing points in any class only the heat position points. Pit passes are $35 for this special event.

The Grandstand Gates open at 3PM and Adult Admission is only $20 while kids 6-12 are only $5 and kids under 6 are Free.

Defending event winners from 2011 include John Anderson ( Late Models), Erik Maggard (A Mods), Shawn Strong ( B Mods), Trevor Drake (Midwest Modz), Dave Comer (Legends), and Tyler Schoen (Pure Stocks).

Home Pro has a rich history of racing tradition as owner John Tullis and his family have rich racing roots in the Missouri area as John’s father, “Fast” Freddie Tullis Sr. was a many time champion in the 4-state area in Stockcar racing not only at the Joplin area tracks but also at the big 1/2 mile Dirt track in Springfield,Mo. John Tullis himself was a very established racer with father Fred Sr helping him along until his passing.Fred Sr is a member of the Ozarks Area Racers Hall Of Fame and went head to head against Larry Phillips many times at the Fairgrounds in Springfield.
