(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Following a sub-par performance during the ‘USA Nationals’ weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway – primarily due to racing with a cast on his broken right hand for the first time – Brian Birkhofer fared much better on Tuesday night, August 6 at the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa. A special ‘Tornado Tuesday’ program was held at West Liberty and a $10,000 payday was on the line.

Brian ran third in his heat race and later finished fourth in the dash to earn the outside second row starting spot in the 50-lapper. The Muscatine, Iowa star then moved up to second in the mid-week A-Main to finish a strong runner-up behind only race winner Jason Utter. You can view a complete race-by-race recap from both Cedar Lake and West Liberty by pointing your web browser to www.brianbirkhoferracing.com.

“First off, I want to apologize to all of my fans who were at Cedar Lake last weekend and had high hopes for me,” stated Birkhofer recently. “I saw a lot of Birkhofer shirts up there and I was just not able to give it 100% due to the cast on my hand. I am right hand dominant on the wheel and just couldn’t get the job done. It was a little easier to drive at a bigger track like West Liberty, but I still wasn’t myself behind the wheel. I think the best decision is to take the next couple of weeks off to get this thing healed, take the cast off, and go back racing when I can drive unrestricted.”

As of now, the Birkhofer Racing team will look to make the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series show at the pristine Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on August 24 their next event. A $10,000 winner’s check will be on the line at the Cincinnati-area facility and the cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios will be there to tape all of the action for broadcast later in the Fall. Brian picked up the LOLMDS win at Lawrenceburg back in 2009 and has not finished outside of the top five the last three seasons. Additional information can be found by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.
