DIRTcar(HARRISBURG, ILLINOIS) Jason Riggs and Brian Shirley both brought their Riggs Motorsports mounts to LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois on Saturday, March 29 for the 3rd Annual ‘Thaw Brawl,’ which was co-sanctioned by the UMP DIRTcar Series and the American Late Model Series (ALMS). Jason timed in third fastest in his group during the qualifying session and later finished second in his heat race behind only teammate Brian Shirley. After rolling off from the outside of the fourth row in the $15,000 to win main event, Jason sported a fast racecar throughout the attrition-filled 75-lapper. The Harrisburg, Illinois native worked his way up to third in the running order before eventually settling for a strong fifth place effort behind only winner Dennis Erb, Jr., Bobby Pierce, Ryan Unzicker, and Scott Bloomquist.

Brian was also poised for a solid run in the ‘Thaw Brawl,’ as he qualified second quickest in his group prior to scoring the heat race triumph. After drawing the pole position before the 75-lap main event, Brian ran second during the early stages of the race before suffering terminal mechanical issues. The Chatham, Illinois ace pulled up lame on lap 22 with rear-end problems on his Rocket racecar and was forced to retire from the ‘Thaw Brawl’ in the seventeenth spot. Full results from LaSalle Speedway can be viewed online at www.lasallespeedway.com.

This upcoming weekend (April 4-6) will be a busy one for both Riggs Motorsports drivers. Brian Shirley will jump back on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series trail, as he will enter $10,000 to win programs at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Mississippi (Friday), Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana (Saturday), and Outlaw Motorsports Park in Muskogee, Oklahoma (Sunday). Brian comes into the triple shot of LOLMDS action tenth in the latest series point standings. Jason Riggs is tentatively scheduled to travel to Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois on Friday and Highland Speedway in Highland, Illinois on Saturday for a pair of weekly UMP DIRTcar Series events.
