Gibbs Wins ARCA Day to Day Coffee 150 at WWT Raceway at Gateway

Ty Gibbs won the 2019 ARCA Menards Series “Day to Day 150” at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

“I am so excited I can’t even think,” said Gibbs after getting out of race car.

The race win was Gibbs first career ARCA Series victory. The 17 year old is the grandson of legendary NASACAR race team owner and former NFL coach Joe Gibbs.

On the last caution, Gibbs came in the pits to take four tires. He came out in 8th place and worked his way to second in the waning laps and was able to pass for the lead on the last lap as he could see the checkered flag in the distance.

“We have a great program,” said Gibbs giving credit to all on his team who support him.

“I come to track with the same determination each race,”said Gibbs. “I go as hard as I can all the time.”

Joe Gibbs sat next to his grandson at the post race press conference. He spoke proudly calling the win one of the greatest moments in his career.

“I know how hard he [Ty] works,” said Joe Gibbs. “Racing is all he ever wanted to do.”

Ty watched intently as his grand-dad spoke.

“It is great to have family here [for his his first win],” said Ty Gibbs.

Qualifying Canceled due to rains. Self and Eckes qualify top spots based on practice times

Morning storms delayed early practice and ARCA race officials canceled Pole qualifying. The weather cleared in the afternoon which enabled ARCA team to practice for one hour for the Day to Day Coffee 150 (120 laps) at World Wide Technology Raceway. The top times in the practice was used to set the field. Michael Self (Sinclair Lubricants) had the fastest time in the practice with a lap of 33.105/135.931 miles per hour.

Christina Eckes (Audio Toyota) had the second fastest time in practice with a lap of 33.125/135.849 mph. He will star in the front along side of Michael Self.

Tanner Gray, who last raced WWT Raceway in the NHRA Pro Stock, now races in ARCA series and he qualified in 7th place.
