(June 2, 2011 Jetmore, KS) On Wednesday, Officials with the Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, KS announced a fine and suspension for sprint car driver Brian Brown. The punishment follows Brown’s actions during the Sunday portion of the Steve King Memorial this past weekend.
While leading late in the race Brian was spun by 2nd place running Derek Drown. Brian kept his car going and was the last car to cross the line before an unrelated yellow flag came out. Brown ignored track officials requests to join the rear of the field. He also tried to damage Brady Bacon’s car under the yellow flag. He nearly made contact with a Great American Dirt Track official as well.
Brian was disqualified from the race from the race for unsportsmanlike conduct. In addition he has been suspended from the Great American Dirt Track for a minimum of one calendar year. He was fined $300, which is to be paid to the Steve King Foundation no later than July 1st. If the fine goes unpaid by the said date, the suspension becomes indefinite. “As in every sport, we have officials. The ASCS officials made the call. Brian didn’t agree with it, and his actions following the decision are what lead to the penalty,” stated track owner Patrick Johnson.
