World of Outlaws Late Model Series(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Brian Birkhofer turned in a stellar performance during the annual ‘USA Nationals’ weekend at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin from August 4-6. On Thursday night, the DART Corn Belt Clash tour sanctioned a $5,000 to win program. Brian won both his heat race and the dash and later drew the outside front row starting spot for the 50-lap feature event. The Muscatine, Iowa ace grabbed the top spot at the drop of the green flag and paced the talented field from flag-to-flag. Brian notched his fourth victory of the 2011 racing season and the $5,000 payday over Jimmy Mars, Rick Eckert, Clint Smith, and Chris Simpson.

The $50,000 to win ‘USA Nationals’ show then kicked off on Friday evening and Brian laid down the ninth fastest lap in World of Outlaws Late Model Series qualifying. Following a fifth place effort in his heat race and a thirteenth place finish in his B-Main, Brian utilized a provisional courtesy of Thursday’s win at CLS to gain access into Saturday’s 100-lapper. The popular driver known as the “Muscatine Madman” started twenty-fourth on the grid in the ‘USA Nationals,’ but blasted his way towards the front. At the end of 100 green flag circuits, Brian found himself in the second position behind only race winner Josh Richards. Full results from the action-packed weekend at Cedar Lake can be viewed online at www.dirtondirt.com.

“It was a good weekend for us and we learned a lot about our car,” commented Birkhofer, who raced at Cedar Lake with a bum shoulder. “We won on Thursday night in the opener, but our car wasn’t where it needed to be and that showed on Friday. But, we drew well and everything went our way on Thursday and wound up in victory lane. Then before the feature on Saturday, I bounced a lot of ideas off of Jimmy and Chris Mars and we hit on something. The car was a whole lot better in the USA Nationals and I was able to drive up to second to finish behind (Josh) Richards. I have to take some good notes, so we come back to Cedar Lake starting closer to our USA Nationals setup as opposed to what we started with last Thursday.”

Following his outstanding showing at Cedar Lake, Brian will return to his home state of Iowa this week for a pair of $10,000 to win showdowns. The Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, Iowa will play host to a World of Outlaws Late Model Series race tonight, August 8, while the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa will hold an unsanctioned program tomorrow night, August 9. The weekend plans for August 12-13 for the #15b team are currently up-in-the-air. Please keep visiting www.brianbirkhoferracing.com to view any last minute schedule changes or additions.
