St. Louis Native and XDRL Points Leader John DeFlorian has High Hopes for Gateway This Weekend
What: This weekend, Gateway Motorsports Park hosts X-treme Drag Racing League (XDRL) Gateway Showdown, an eighth-mile sanctioning body debuting in 2013 – created by MPH Motorsports. It’s the XDRL’s debut at the track and the fourth of nine races in its inaugural 2013 season.
St. Louis native and XDRL point leader John Deflorian will compete with designs to break the world records he set at Gateway in 2012. “That would be a tremendous thing and we would certainly love to do that. But in a class like this, you certainly can’t go in expecting that because these guys will send you home right away,” DeFlorian said. “You can go from hero to zero in the snap of a finger. It doesn’t last forever and it’s so difficult to achieve. The consistency is showing up and all the work is paying off. The cars in this class are so competitive and it’s impressive how tough this class really is.”
The XDRL series includes seven all-professional, eighth-mile drag racing classes:
PRO X-TREME: No engine limitations help make this the quickest and fastest doorslammer class in the world!
PRO NITROUS: It’s all about the nitrous oxide, as nitrous feeds these nearly 900-inch cubic inch engines for jumbo horsepower!
X-TREME PRO STOCK: The quickest and fastest naturally-aspirated passenger cars, and some of the closest side-by-side drag racing you will ever see!
PRO TURBO: Only turbos here in this new and innovative class, and these turbocharged cars will provide plenty of power and excitement!
X-TREME PRO MOD: This class has it all, as supercharged, nitrous and turbocharged cars all compete in this action-packed legal weight class!
TOP DRAGSTER: Another new XDRL class and this one promises to deliver plenty of fast times and thrilling action.
TOP SPORTSMAN: The premier place for sportsman racing, where these drivers have it all: reaction times, dial-ins and killer ETs and speeds!
PRO JUNIOR DRAGSTER: See the stars of tomorrow as these young men and women race battle it out with the best junior dragster racing in the world!
SUPERCAR SHOWDOWN: This class is all about the factory standouts meeting up to decide which car is the biggest and baddest!

No weekend passes.
The gates open at 1:00pm. Friday and 10:00am Saturday, with the first round of qualifying on Friday are at 3:00 p.m., 5:00pm and 8:00pm. On Saturday, the racing will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the final qualifying session. The first round of eliminations starts at 3:00 p.m., with special jet car passes and other exhibition runs concluding the evening on Friday and Saturday. Finals will run Saturday evening at 7:30pm.
