World of Outlaws Late Model SeriesWinfield, Tennessee (06/18/13) – Mike Marlar turned his first-ever weekend in a Bloomquist Chassis into his first win of the season as he claimed the $20,000 top prize in the Clash at the Mag at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at the state-of-the-art facility in his #5b Bryson Motorsports/Clements powered Super Late Model.

Forty-six Super Late Models registered for battle on Friday evening at the 3/8 mile oval, and Mike started his weekend by qualifying second fastest in his group to earn the pole starting spot for his heat race, which he won. In the redraw for the feature he received the third starting spot for Saturday night’s 100 lap finale.

As the feature went green on Saturday night Marlar assumed control of the second spot behind leader, Don O’Neal. For the first half of the event Marlar held down the runner-up position as he kept O’Neal in check. Just after the midway point John Blankenship shuffled Marlar back to third, and that’s where Mike would run until a lap 88 restart. On the restart Mike went to work on the high side of the track first passing Blankenship before overtaking O’Neal for the lead exiting turn two on lap 92.

Once out front Mike never looked back on his way to the victory, which came in front of the Lucas Oil Production Studios Cameras. He was followed across the finish line by O’Neal, Blankenship, Jimmy Owens, and Randy Weaver.

“When I saw the caution come out, I got down in some dry dirt on the bottom of the track, and then I had to clean my tires off really good for the restart,” said Marlar. “It was good to have one more shot at it there at the end. I lined up beside Blankenship for the restart, and my car took off really well up top, and it only took us a few laps to get by O’Neal. They had an awesome race track here tonight, we have always enjoyed coming down here to Mississippi to race, and they have a lot of great fans here.”

The team currently doesn’t plan to race anywhere this weekend, but rather turns its attention to the 5th Annual Firecracker 100, which will be held at Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pennsylvania) on June 27th-29th. The World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model program will see $6,000-to-win races held on Thursday and Friday night before the festivities conclude on Saturday evening with a $30,000-to-win event.
