IMCADUBUQUE, Iowa (July 12) – While it was his first career win in a Late Model, Justin Kay admits the details about that weekly race back in 2009 at Dubuque Speedway have gotten a bit hazy.

He’ll remember everything about every lap if he can win again on Sunday, July 14 when the Deery Brothers Summer Series comes to town.

Kay has won three straight IMCA Late Model tour events, one short of the record set by Gary Webb in 1994 and equaled by Rob Toland in 2004 and again by Brian Harris this season.

“We’re not going to take a different approach to Dubuque than we have to any other race this season,” he said. “We’re going to do the best we can and not worry about how many we win in a row.”

Five previous Deery events have been held at Dubuque and Kay has been in the feature field for four of them. He was 19th in 2011, eighth in both 2012 races and 12th on May 8, his worst showing in 10 tour events so far this season.

Harris has finished second each night of Kay’s string, which now includes wins at Independence, Davenport and West Liberty. Harris’ incredible season started with three consecutive third place finishes and he’ll bring a 30-point lead over Kay to Dubuque.

“We’re on a roll right now. Regardless of whether we keep winning, I’d like to start picking up some points on Brian,” Kay said. “I wasn’t sure what was going to happen Wednesday (at West Liberty) when he pulled up next to me after the restart but it all worked out.”

Kay has also won three straight weekly features. He’d never won six consecutive races during a distinguished 4-cylinder career.

Sunday’s main event pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

Spectator admission is $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for students and free for kids 12 and under free when accompanying a paying adult. Pit passes are $30.

Deery Brothers Summer Series top 20 point standings – 1. Brian Harris, Davenport, Iowa, 491; 2. Justin Kay, Wheatland, Iowa, 461; 3. Andy Eckrich, Oxford, Iowa, 457; 4.
