Eldora Speedway(MUSCATINE, IOWA) After taking the better part of the last month off to nurse his broken right hand, Brian Birkhofer and his #15b team roared back into action over Labor Day weekend (August 30-September 2) in four high-profile events in the states of Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. On Friday night at the Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, Brian had his best run of the weekend in the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series showdown. The Muscatine, Iowa star laid down the quickest lap overall during the qualifying session and later took the win in heat race action. After starting the 50-lap main event from the pole position, Brian trailed only victor Jimmy Owens to the checkers to claim a strong runner-up performance.

At the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday evening, Brian ran fourth in his heat race, but later retired early in the $15,000 to win ‘Pepsi 50 River Days Rumble’ and finished twenty-fourth in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series battle. In the 45th Annual ‘Hillbilly 100,’ which boasted a hefty $25,000 winner’s share on Sunday at the I-77 Raceway Park in Ripley, West Virginia, Brian finished second in his heat race, but later drew a lap 18 caution during the feature and retired from the 100-lapper in the twenty-sixth spot. On Monday in the holiday weekend finale at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania, “Birky” was involved in a multi-car tangle on lap 28 during the $20,000 to win National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) main event and was relegated to a disappointing nineteenth place effort in the 75-lap headliner. Next up for the Birkhofer Racing team will be the 43rd running of the ‘World 100.’ The event known as “The Granddaddy of Them All” will take place on September 5-7 at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. This Thursday and Friday night at the “Big E” will feature complete shows with a full slate of multi-car time trials to split the field into even/odd groups followed by heat races, B-Mains, and twin 25-lap main events, each paying $5,000 to the winner. On Saturday, the time-honored format of six heat races, along with two B-Mains and B-Scrambles, will lead into the 100-lap ‘World 100,’ which boasts a hefty $46,000 top prize and the prestigious globe trophy.

The total posted awards for the 2013 edition of the ‘World 100’ is a record $283,910. Brian has transferred into twelve ‘World 100’ feature events during his career and has two globe trophies to his credit, as he scored the big win in both 2002 and 2012.
