tuscon-international-ratecewayTucson, Arizona (January 25, 2014) Officials of the National Dirt racing League (NDRL) announced today that they have reached an agreement with the ownership of Tucson International Raceway (TIR) to assume operation of the 3/8ths of a mile oval for the 2014 season and beyond. “We had a very successful event with our Winter Extreme at TIR. We also believe that the track has huge potential for both special events and a solid weekly program. Pat Robley and I have worked out an agreement for our team to take over management and operations of the facility immediately. We are really looking forward to making TIR the premier dirt racing facility in the Western United States.” commented NDRL Owner John Kennedy of the TIR announcement.

Tucson International Raceway (formerly known as USA Raceway) has become a staple in January for many of Dirt Late Model and Open Wheel Modified Racing’s biggest stars. The 2014 Winter Extreme saw more than 70 different Dirt Late Model Drivers enter and nearly 50 different Modified drivers. The NDRL also added several twists and perks including giveaways, a fan and driver welcome party and a wing eating contest to this year’s January classic. “Our thoughts were that we really wanted to make this into a special event not just a race. We think that this is just the tip of the iceberg in Tucson. We were able to get some great sponsor support for Winter Extreme and we have built some strong relationships in the area already. So with us there concentrating on the facility for the entire season, the growth potential is nearly endless.” Kennedy added.

Tucson International Raceway owner Pat Robley was equally enthused about the relationship with the NDRL. “John and his group did good job with the Winter Extreme. They did a lot of work and brought many things to the table to make the event successful. I am glad that they stepped up and decided to take on operating the track. It is really one of the nicest facilities anywhere in the country. I think the NDRL group will do a great job with TIR and I look forward to a great relationship with them in the years to come.” Robley said.

Complete details regarding racing divisions, rules and schedule information will be released in the days and weeks ahead. The season opening event for Tucson International Raceway is set for Saturday, March 8th when the “Greatest Show on Dirt” The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars invade TIR for the “NAPA Wildcat Shootout”.
