(Warrensburg, MO) Dirt track magic returns to Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday, August 1 for Kids Night at the Races with USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and guest class Mid-America Lightning Sprints!

One of the most highly anticipated events at the track each year, Kids Night, features foot races on the track in age categories for both boys and girls ages 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Foot race winners will receive a prize for taking the checkered flag and all age groups will be eligible to win bicycles donated by drivers, fans, and track staff!

All kids 12 and under receive a free goodie bag stuffed with various items including school supplies, candy, and other race-related trinkets. In addition, all kids 12 and under receive a free drink and hot dog courtesy of track owners Earl and Susan Walls.

Last weekend’s racing was fast and furious as Steven Bowers, Jr., from Topeka, Kansas left town with his first-ever feature win in the always tough USRA Modified division. As a result of his third consecutive top-two finishes, Terry Schultz of Sedalia now leads the USRA Modified track championship rankings just ahead of Odessa, Missouri’s Jim Moody. In the USRA Modified point standings, Moody remains within striking distance of Schultz in the point’s race with Tim Karrick, Dean Wille, and Aaron Marrant rounding out the top five.

Dean Wille of Warrensburg is one of several weekly “double duty” drivers competing in the USRA Modifieds and B-Modifieds. Wille leads the B-Mod standings in his University of Central Missouri-sponsored car with four feature wins and seven top fives to his credit. Richard Brainard of Sedalia is second just 34 points ahead of Troy Carlyle along with Eddie Bray, Jr., and Cody Frazon completing the top five. Jacob Ebert of Oak Grove, Missouri has two consecutive feature wins heading into this week.

Brett Wood, another Warrensburg driver, remains on top in the Street Stocks class with seven feature wins this year. Troy Turley of Knob Noster, Missouri, who has come on strong lately is in second as a result of his feature win last weekend ahead of Jermiah Wilson, Larry Ferris and Herb Danner inside the top five.

The Pure Stock division is a new growing class of cars and drivers this year at CMS. The point’s leader, LeRoy Morrison Jr., a young 15-year old driver of Raymore has shown improvement in his racing program this season. Gary Akers was leading this class until several weeks ago when his son, Shane, drove his car for the first time at CMS. Akers is still second with Bobby Raybourn third, in spite of selling his car a few weeks ago. Don Johnson steps up his racing and climbs up the charts into fourth spot with Darrin “The Bear” Christy fifth. Christy won his third feature event last weekend as he drove by previous winner Kyle Rowland for the win.

Start times for this weekend include gates opening at 5; driver’s meeting at 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30. Adult general admission is $12, Military and College Students w/I.D. $10, Seniors 65+ $10, Kids ages 6 to 12 $5, Children age 5 and under free.
