war sprintsWheatland, MO(September 26, 2014)-Taking the lead from Mitchell Moore on lap sixteen, Wyatt Burks picked up his second career win with the WAR Series presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps during the first night of the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway Friday night.

The initial start saw Payton Pierce take off in the lead as he was followed by Daum and fast qualifier Derek Hagar.  Before a lap could be completed, the red flag would be thrown for Dustin Morgan, who flipped violently down the backstretch.  Morgan was uninjured.

Daum shot into the lead on the second attempt at green and would lead until action was stopped on lap three when Cody Baker made contact with the wall in turn one ending his evening.

Daum again led on the restart as he was followed by Moore, Hagar, and Burks.  The running order would stay this way over the next ten laps.

On lap fourteen, Moore got a run on Daum and took over the top spot.  A lap later, Burks also made his way past Daum as the top five cars were all within striking distance of the top spot.
Burks would get by Moore on lap seventeen as Daum and teammate Casey Shuman both started running the high groove and started working their way back closer to the top two.

By lap twenty two, Burks was still in control, but Moore and Daum had a good battle going for second.  Daum would get by Moore on lap twenty three.

Burks would go on to his second career WAR win in his Industrial Maintenace Inc./Kansas Powertrain Maxim with Trondson power under the hood.  Moore would work his way back past Daum to run second in his Kelly Potter owned XXX with Moore power.  Daum was a close third in the Hockett Racing/Korte Transportation DRC with Don Ott power.  Shuman was fourth in a second Hockett entry with Hagar rounding out the top five. Aric Gentry and Josh Stephens ran sixth and seventh with Chad Goff, Chris Parkinson, and Steve Thomas rounding out the top ten.

Hagar, Morgan, Burks, and Shuman were the heat race winners while Casey Baker and Dylan Kadous won the twin B Mains.

The WAR Series presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps will run the second night of the Hockett/McMillin Memorial tonight at Lucas Oil Speedway.
