By Jimmy Dearing – Pontoon Beach, IL (April 17th, 2015) Tri-City Speedway finally got the 2015 racing season underway after two consecutive weeks of being washed out by Mother Nature. The fans were treated to a spectacular show that featured two and three wide racing with late race passes for the wins in both the UMP DIRTcar Late Model and UMP DIRTcar Modified main events.

Tim Manville jumped out to the early lead in the UMP DIRTcar Late Model main event and paced the field for the first twenty-five laps of the thirty lap main event. After a lap thirteen caution, Scott Weber, who restarted fifth after the caution, moved up to the high side and quickly moved into the second position. Then another caution on lap twenty-three tightened the field back up and Weber went to work on Manville for the lead after the restart. As Weber was closing in the high side, Manville made the move to the top to take away his line. Then Weber dove in low going into turn one and pulled even with Manville for the lead. Manville would get the advantage down the back stretch but he would elect to go back to the low side. That gave Weber the opportunity to go back up to the top and drive around Manville for the lead. Weber would take the win with Manville second. Kolby Vandenbergh would finish third with Tanner English and Billy Laycock rounding out the top five.

The UMP DIRTcar Modified main event provided what may of been the best race of the night. Mike Harrison would drive from the fourteenth starting spot to take the win. Dave Wietholder would pace the field early on as he took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Wietholder and Michael Long would battle for the top spot for the ten laps. Dean Hoffman then worked his way to the top spot and it appeared as if he might run away to an easy win. Rick Stevenson challenged Hoffman for a few laps, but once Harrison finally cleared everyone and got to the second spot, he set his sights on Hoffman. Harrison was all the way up against the outside wall as he chased down Hoffman who was down on the bottom. After catching Hoffman, the two raced side by side for a couple of laps before Harrison took control and went on to win. Hoffman would finish second with Stevenson taking third. Danny Ems would finish fourth and Tyler Nicely fifth.
