Although it’s extremely early in the Decade of Racing anniversary season for the Lucas Cattle Company ULMA, it’s hard not to think of the possibility that for the first time ever, the eventual Hoosier Tire Midwest Rookie of the Year could also be crowned the overall champion. Aaron Marrant currently leads the Rookie of the Year standings and moves into the top ten overall standings after claiming his fourth victory of the year last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway, where he just edged Justin Russell for the win.

As the race neared completion, Marrant found himself in the clutches of Russell in heavy lapped traffic and narrowly captured the victory, which was the third in a row for Marrant at the Speedway. Russell, the previous year’s track champion settled for second, which is tied for his best finish of the year, he was also runner-up on April 23rd.

Chris Smyser made his long travels from Lancaster, Missouri, pay off by rounding out the top three. Bobby Penney continues to post solid finishes and advanced from sixth on the grid to finish fourth one spot ahead of former Track Champion Tommy Cordray in fifth. Larry Ferris, Jon Melloway, Phil Edmondson, Lane Ehlert, and Chris Cox completed the top ten.

Round five of the ULMA weekly championship series continues this Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway. For more information and details on the many upcoming special events at the speedway, including ticketing and seating information for the Show-Me 100, visit the track online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com. Lucas Oil Speedway is located at Highways 83 and 54 in Wheatland, Missouri. Admission prices this week are: Adults (16 and up) $12, Seniors (62 and up)/Military $9, Youth (6-15) $5, Kids (5-and-under) free.

Persistent rains led to another cancellation of Friday racing at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri last weekend; however, the track will try again this week for another exciting night of action. Gates open at 5 with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30. The track is located at 7419 County Road 405, Fulton, MO. For additional information call (573) 592-7795 or (573) 642-6580 or visit www.callawayraceways.com.

For all ULMA events this season drivers must possess a valid ULMA license or purchase the $10 temporary license while on site at each event. Drivers are highly encouraged to make their way to the ULMA website at www.ulmaracing.com and complete the licensing paperwork prior to checking in at weekend events, printing it out, and bringing it with them to the tracks they will race at this season. Drivers must be in compliance with ULMA Rules and Regulations as written.
