Tanner Swanson was also the pole sitter but could only lead the 1st lap when Chris Windom jumped to the lead and held the top spot for 25 laps. On lap 11, Kody Swanson, Tanner’s brother, lost control and slid up into the 1st turn wall. He was not injured and walked away.
Shortly After the caution Tanner Swanson was able to pass Windom.
“I was watching in his path during the caution,” said Swanson.
“I was nervous the last ten laps,” said Swanson. “I knew we had the same tires and setup as Kody.”
But Swanson was able to hold the current season point leader, Windom, for the win at Gateway. For Swanson it was his second win of the year.
“This ranks up there,” said Swanson describing his win at Gateway’s super-speedway.
While race was winding down, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued, and race officials urged fans to take cover. However, the race continued with many of the fans gathering at the base of the grandstand along the fence.
“I am a third generation racer and I grew up standing along the fence,” said Swanson describing the unique situation of fans on the fence.
