Eldora Speedway(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) In a weekend that saw Ray Cook compete in a trio of events in the states of West Virginia and Ohio leading up to Labor Day, the Brasstown, North Carolina ace saved his best performance for last. On Sunday, September 2, the annual running of the ‘Hillbilly Hundred’ took place at the I-77 Raceway Park in Ripley, West Virginia. Ray laid down the fastest lap in Group B during Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying and later won his loaded heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the front row in the $25,000 to win ‘Hillbilly Hundred,’ Ray ran as high as second in the 100-lapper before finishing in the third spot behind only winner Mike Marlar and runner-up Don O’Neal.

Earlier in the holiday weekend, Ray slung dirt at both the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia and at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. At Tyler County on Friday night, Ray was involved in a wreck early in the $8,000 to win UFO Race Championship feature event and wound up twenty-third in the final rundown. On Saturday at PRP, Ray received a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series provisional to gain access into the ‘Pepsi River Days Rumble,’ which boasted a $10,000 top prize. The “Tarheel Tiger” had moved up inside of the top ten in the 50-lap main event until a broken lifter dropped him to a seventeenth place effort. Full results from the action-packed weekend can be viewed online at www.dirtondirt.com.

Up next for the #53 D&R Motorsports team will be their yearly trek to the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on September 7-8 for the 42nd Annual ‘World 100.’ The biggest event in the Dirt Late Model industry will kick-off this Friday night with qualifying, while heat races, consolation events, and the 100-lap main event are slated for Saturday evening. The victor of the 2012 ‘World 100’ will receive a $45,000 winner’s check and the famous globe trophy.
