Lucas Oil Late Model Series(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Brian Birkhofer and his #15b team invaded the historic Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on September 27-29 for the 9th Annual ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.’ The three-day extravaganza started with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary events. On Thursday night, Brian timed in eleventh fastest in qualifying, won his heat race, and later finished fourth in the 25-lapper behind only winner Billy Moyer, Shannon Babb, and Steve Francis. At Knoxville on Friday evening, Brian ran eighth in his loaded heat race, finished second in the B-Main, and later climbed ten spots in the 25-lap main event to salvage a twelfth place performance.

By virtue of his strong preliminary night on Thursday, Brian locked himself into the inside of the fourth row for the start of the ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals’ on Saturday. A huge crowd turned out to Knoxville to witness the Lucas Oil Production Studios-taped event, which boasted a hefty $40,000 top prize. The Muscatine, Iowa star, who was gunning for his second race title, flexed his muscle early by vaulting to the top spot on lap 26. That was unfortunately the only lap that Brian led in the 100-lapper, but he was still able to stay towards the front of the stellar field to notch a third place effort behind only winner Steve Francis and runner-up Brady Smith. Following the strong weekend in their home state of Iowa, the Birkhofer Racing team is slated to enjoy the next couple of weekends off from racing action. Their next scheduled event will be 32nd Annual ‘Dirt Track World Championship,’ which will be held for the first time at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 19-20. The DTWC will mark the final event of the season for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and boasts a hefty $50,000 winner’s check. Preliminary action will start on Friday night, while the 100-lap DTWC will headline the weekend at PRP on Saturday evening. This event will also be taped by the Lucas Oil Production Studios for broadcast on the SPEED network. Additional information can be obtained by logging onto www.lucasdirt.com.

In other news, Brian would like to thank all of the fans and businesses that sponsored laps at the ‘World 100’ back in early September. Brian recently received that check from Eldora Speedway and that bonus money was very much appreciated!
