World of Outlaws Late Model SeriesFayetteville, GA (February 11, 2012) 2012 Dream 100 Winner Shane Clanton and his Kennedy Motorsports team kicked of the Georgia/Florida Speedweeks with a bang on Friday, February 8 with a $8,000 win in the 2013 season opener for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA.

Clanton started on the pole for the first leg of the ‘Winter Freeze’ and bolted out to the lead when the green flag dropped. Shane led all 40 laps to win his first World of Outlaws sanctioned event since July 7, 2012 at Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota.

Clanton, who finished third in the 2012 WoO LMS points standings, had plenty of reasons to smile after his dominating performance. But it seemed he was most satisfied about putting a cherry on top of his car owner John Kennedy’s already unforgettable day.
As Clanton was traveling to Screven on Friday afternoon he learned that Kennedy’s wife had just given birth to twins – boy Grady and girl Keegan – in the couple’s hometown of Phoenix.

‘We had a special gift today, our car owner had two babies,’ said Clanton, who is in his second season driving for Kennedy Motorsports. ‘It’s special to dedicate this win to them. The babies’ mama said, ‘they need shoes already, so get up on the wheel.’

‘This is the third year on our (Capital) car, so the more races we run, the better we can judge what we need to do at certain times and what we need to do for adjustments. Right now me and (chief mechanic) Jonathan (Owenby) are jelling pretty good at what we need to do to the car. We worked on a lot of stuff over the winter and have gotten better.’

Clanton finished out the ‘Winter Freeze’ weekend at Screven on Saturday, February 9 with an equally impressive second place run behind Josh Richards, who finished second to Clanton the night before. The two now share the World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship points lead heading into the series’ next events at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL and Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL.

Kennedy Motorsports drivers Shane Clanton and Tim Fuller will both be in action at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL for the ‘Bubba Army Late Model Nationals’ on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 15, 16, and 17. The three events will pay $7,000, $10,000, and $20,000. The GA/FL Speedweeks will wrap up after six straight nights at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL where Fuller will also compete with the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds. The UNOH Florida DIRTcar Nationals, for the Late Models, start on Monday, February 18 and will come to a close on Saturday, February 23 after three $7,000 to-win UMP sanctioned events and three $10,000 to-win World of Outlaws events.
